As with many people out there, the USB flash drive device is a very important part of my life. Any documents that i produce on the PC are always backed up on the memory stick just in case the PC crashes and everything is lost. Not only would this take a lot of time to sort out, but for many peopleit would also cost them money.
Before going out and buying this, I had one of the small sony flash drives, that i have already given a review of. When i unfortunately lost that one i had to go and buy another, i needed one that had a large memory capacity, and one that wasnt going to cost me and arm and a leg.
The first port of call for me is alwayd amazon, where i stumbled across this, the Kingston Data Traveller, 8GB memory stick. Not only was it big enough for what i needed, it was also a steal at £16.
My device is black in colour, and i have now seen that they are also available in red and blue, for those who are reall that bothered! It is small enought to easily carry around in your pocket, and is also very light (12g). Below are the dimensions for the Kingston Data Traveler 100: 2.35" x 0.88" x 0.37" (59.7mm x 22.3mm x 9.5mm)
Like all memory sticks it is very simple to use, just plug it into the USB port on you PC or notebook, and they pop up will appear and you can open the files saved on it. Couldnt me more simple. Also, a big advantage is that it does not need and drivers tobe pre installed before using the memory stick on your computer, although i believe they are all like this.
The device is compatible with most modern systems, their web site states that this will work with anything newer than Windows 2000,and will also work with a mac. The transfer rate for this is 3.8 seconds per megabtye. the equates to 1.1GB trasferring in a time of 4 minutes and 50 seconds. This is where the price makes the difference, i have done some research for you, and found a device that wil transfer 1.1GB of date in a rapid 1 minute and 30 seconds. however this is more than three times more expensive, and anyway, how often does Mr or Mrs average have files of that size on their memory stick? Normal microsoft word documents are usually less the 1MB in size. Since owning this device i have not had any problems with it at all. However, i dont know anyone who has had any problems with USB flash drives unless they have been careless with them, and destroyed them, or put them through the washing machine - not advisable really. Whats more, i have now looked at the website of this manufacturer, and have found that even if something does go wrong with it, they are all covered by a 5 year manufacturers warranty. This tells me how sure they are that they are giving you a top quality product.
I have decided if i ever have to buy another one of these devices then i will certainly just go for the cheapest one available on the market. I simply refuse to pay more than i have to for something that will do the same job, just as well as a cheaper option.
I can recommend this product to a potential buyer as i ahve had no porblems with it. However, i would suggest that if you do find something even cheaper still, then go for that instead!
