Advantages: Speed of small transfers Disadvantages: No ReadyBoost, feels cheap
Hi today I will be reviewing a KingstonDataTravler 2GBUSBFlashDrive. I bought this a few months ago after losing my other flashdrive. It cost me 9.97 from PC World but I believe you can get them cheaper in other places.
Speed
For the data that I transfer to it i.e. pictures and some small visual basic programs it transfers them extremely quick compared to some cheap flashdrives I have used in the past.
Problems
So far I have had no major problems other than in windows vista it is not capable of running ReadyBoost which a free flashdrive I had a while ago could.
Size
The overall size of the flashdrive is quiet good the USB connector slides in and out with a rather flimsy press and slide switch.
Feel
The Kingston feels rather cheap and plastic considering the price I paid for it anyway.
Over all this is not a bad ...
I gave my 2GBKingstonflashdrive a few months ago and I think it's really great. I can use it for Microsoft Windows Vista ReadyBoost to speed up my PC. It's not too expensive and it has got a life-time warranty. It's really fast and every operating system contents a driver to use it. If you want to buy a somewhat cheap flashdrive, and need a good quality buy that. Most of new PCs can boot from USB nowadays. Thanks to the USB2.0 technology I can boot up my favourite live Linux distribution from it and I can save it back when I finished the work. You can use it for system rescue too but if you don't need these special "features" just use it to store and move data. :) ...
Advantages: Compact, fast, reliable Disadvantages: Lack of transportation strap
I remember when USBflashdrives hit the market a few years back when you could fit a staggering 16Mb worth of data on a device the size of your middle finger. Since then capacity has increased and prices have decreased at an alarming rate. For example you can now get 4Gbflashdrives for cheaper than the original 16Mb drives which represents great value for money.
--Whats in the box --
Contents of the box are minimalistic to say the least, there is the drive itself and a little strap which you can then use to attach the drive to your belt/keyring, etc. This device really is plug and play in its simplest form, there arent even any instructions supplied with it, mainly because none are required.
-- Useage --
Plugging the drive into a spare USB slot will give you an extra drive in Windows Explorer (My Computer) typically F ...

Manufacturer's product description
Take full advantage of all Windows Vista has to offer with DataTraveler ReadyFlash USB 2.0 Flash drive. It's enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost and meets the speed requirements set by Microsoft for ReadyBoost. DataTraveler ReadyFlash is a safe and convenient solution for taking important files with you wherever you go.Before Windows Vista, background tasks such as scanning and automatic backups were done when the system thought they would be of least disturbance to you. Now with Windows Vista, Windows SuperFetch technology learns what applications you use most and prepares them by preloading them to memory.Windows ReadyBoost, which is used in conjunction with SuperFetch, allows your system to utilize a memory source in addition to DRAM for processing data and applications. This feature is ideal for systems with limited memory expansion capabilities. For instance, if your notebook has a maximum memory capacity of 1GB installed, Windows ReadyBoost allows for usage of a Flash memory device, such as the DataTraveler ReadyFlash (DTR), as a more responsive storage medium for ReadyBoost cache.DTR is a USB 2.0 Flash drive enhanced for Windows ReadyBoost; when connected to a Vista based system's USB 2.0 port, the Windows Vista AutoPlay dialog box will offer the option of using the device for ReadyBoost. However, only devices like DTR meet the performance requirements and capacity threshold for ReadyBoost. Take full advantage of all that Windows Vista has to offer with the DataTraveler ReadyFlash. With DTR, storing, carrying, and transferring data has never been easier. Take your work, music, or photos with you anywhere.
