"It"s a high-speed dry-foam cleaning system from the USA.."
I used to work for one of the UK branches of Kirby Cleaners, so I can write a balanced review...
Looking back with hind-sight-I can honestly say the actual cleaner is very good.
It will deep clean almost any soft-furnishing, carpet or upholstery in your home-there"s no disputing that.I had the experience of using and demonstrating it too many people in my 2 years working for them.
The pros....
A powerful vacuum cleaner that will pick up anything from carpets-be they standard or deep-pile.
The dry foam add-on will deep clean your carpets, furniture-even you bed matress-we used to attach a "test-glass" when demonstrating this, and "UGH!!"-YOU WOULD not believe how much dead skin and dust mite goo this machine can collect in a matter of minutes.
Great for anyone who suffers from "house-dust-mite-allergy", asthma, or any breathing related ailments-it really does get all the gunk up that many cleaners simply leave behind.
Its relatively easy to operate-once you have practised putting the various hoses, brushes and attachments on-if I can do it-anyone can-I"m possibly the least dextrous person ever born!!
Its fairly light-weight-handy for when you want to vacuum or dry-shampoo your stairs.
It has many specially designed attachments and different-sized nozzles, so you can go from cleaning a vast expanse of carpet, to getting deep into all those annoyingly "hard to reach" nooks and crannies, around your home-I find it a gem for reaching down the narrow sides of my cooker-to suck out all those stray crumbs congregating there!
The Cons......
OK-number one obvious downer has to be the cost-when I was working with Kirby, a good 10 years ago-the machines went from a price range of about £999 upto £1,500.
This all depended on the model you bought-but more so on how talented a salesman you had turn up to demonstrate the thing!
Fair enough, all sales firms have to market their product, and make the best sale they can....but theres a limit to what I feel is justifiable...and what is down-right immoral.
This was my reason for choosing to leave Kirby after 2 successful years.
I got sick of hearing all the horror stories of what various reps did to flog the machine-one where a rep had a poor woman in tears-as she really wanted and indeed needed the cleaner-as she suffered from severe asthma and dust allergies-but after being pumelled and sold the idea that she could"nt live without it-the rep then came back to her a day later to say she could not have one-she had failed the companys credit scoring and as they would not offer her finance options.. and she could not afford to pay the full amount-and therefore would not be a proud new Kirby owner.
Its such a shame that a great product like the Kirby Cleaner has now a some-what "tarnished" reputation.
If they lowered the cost and made it affordable to more people out there-they could do away with their ludicrous credit options-"Buy now...pay back forever"........
If you are wealthy, a lotto winer or come into a large inheritance, then by all means-go out and treat yourself to this fantastic cleaner-its actions will easily speak louder than a million rehearsed sales pitches that its pumped-up sales force will shove down your throat.
If however you are, like myself on a budget-then please do not feel you are missing out.
I have found many decent Vacuum cleaners over the years that are a small fraction of the cost of the Kirby-and whilst they may not offer as many unique functions, they work perfectly well...and you do not have to spend the rest of your natural life paying for them.

I'm sure there must be cheaper cleaners that do the job just as well, its certainly an expensive machine!! :-)

The fact that Kirbys are made in a country where everything is bigger than it should be to European tastes show that Kirbys are one of the better uprights you can buy - I wouldnt though as I find them too heavy and cumbersome to use. Look out for a member called Gavman who has is a Kirby fan and owners. Like Buckingham Palace and The Kremlin though, Ill stick to my Sebo X1 Automatic. A lot more info on the product itself, changing the bag, filtration and optional accessories will inform anyone who is in the market for this model. Nar
