Kiss DP-1504

Advantages: Networked, 40Gb Hard drive
Disadvantages: Slow Menus, Low quality remote

...This DVD Player has a very compact size but does pack in a lot of features. When I purchased my Kiss player (Q1 2005) it was the only networkable DVD player available in the UK. Since then the market has become a little more crowed with Media PCs and other networked device, however the Kiss player still holds its own partly due to the fact that the Players Firmware (the software which produces the Menus) is upgradeable. The player has a 10\100 Ethernet port for wired connection to a network or a PCMCIA card slot for a wireless card. My player came with a free wireless card which I use to connect to my main PC network. The player will allow you to play a variety of computer files including Movies; AVI, MPG, DivX and I think XviD. Audio; Wav, MP3. Graphics; Gif and Jpg. These files can be shared from a PC\Mac on the same network... Read review

Advantages: Plays all the content and file types you can throw at it
Disadvantages: Plenty of bugs, little firmware updates and the Online Extras are useless

...I have owned the Kiss DP-600 player since the day it came out. So far it has not failed to play a media type thrown at it. Unfortunatly Kiss have only released a few firmware updates. The player is still full of Bugs. For example - *a Green screen when the player turns on *Difficulty in Upgrading and Downgrading Firmware *HDMI issues still (my HDMI decided it would stop working) *Access speeds from USB port to an External usb HDD make high definition content on the hard disk pretty much unplayable. *Power off feature doesnt always switch to full standby more like a hibernate mote Dispite a couple of firmware updates to do not think Kiss have taken their time with this product. In my opinion this is now very over priced for its age. And looking around you can buy HD media player which is more up to date than the Kiss 600. At one stage... Read review

...The Kiss DP-600 is unreal. I have seen negative reviews on this product but I still wen ahead and bought it because I thought even if these reviews were correct that the offering was too good to miss. The negative reviews stated the following 1) The DVD drive gives out a constant whine that is so loud you can hear it over the TV 2) The PC link software is rubbish it doesn't work and they had to use windows media connect. 3) The box will crash on occasion and you have to power cycle it. 4) The wireless capability is limited you need to have your access point right next to the DP-600 5) It has no Hard drive In answer to 1 I suspect that this person had a faulty drive,Tinitus or is using it as apillow because I can't hear anything lout of the ordinary let alone over the tv.
