BIG hob looks for the smaller kitchen. Advantages: Great price, 70cm hob fits in 60cm cutout!, 5 burners Disadvantages: Big pans touch, difficult to set it low enough for gentle simmer ...hob to go with a Baumatic B187 oven (reviewed elsewhere), as it looked good, and gave the smallish kitchen a bit more glitz. As mentioned in the heading, this 70cm hob fits in a 60 cm cut-out which was very handy as two drawer units were sandwiching the oven, and there was no room for anything bigger than 60cm. The B68 over sails the drawers, but there's no problem as the cut-out is still 60cm! I think this hob is a bit of a step up from some others ... ...stands… 3 of them in all so they are easier to fit in a standard dishwasher. The burner tops feel a bit thin and cheap when you clean them, but they look and work fine on the hob. The aluminium burners are just surface polished, as I found out when I put them through the dishwasher and they went dull grey. IT HAS SELF DESTRUCTED!! Advantages: Beautiful & stylish Disadvantages: Difficult to keep clean. Unusable after a week of use! This hob looks very stylish and trendy and expensive... its gorgeous! Wasn't too expensive either. It Ignites well and has lovely easy to use knobs. It almost looks like an induction plate, shiny black glass. Unfortunately the downsides are too important to ignore! We have found it hateful to keep clean, we have had to use hot soapy water immediately after use and then a soft cloth & glass cleaner otherwise it looks terrible! "Stoves S5-G700" gas hob - easy to use, go for the enamel version Advantages: Five well spaced burners, easy-to-use controls Disadvantages: Burner bodies mark easily This is a good solid easy-to-use hob. After nine months of use we haven't had any problems with its operation or use. It has a good selection of burners, including a "double-ring" wok burner. The control knobs are well placed and clearly marked. However, we went for the stainless steel version. To keep it looking good you have to clean and dry it after every cooking session. Definitely not a NAFF hob! Advantages: Sleek looks, good safety features, good quality Disadvantages: Unresponsive buttons When it comes to cooking I am usually a fan of gas hobs. I like to move pans around a lot when cooking to make sure that food doe not stick. With gas hobs there are nice strong metal supports for the pans to rest on and you can be quite violent with no risk of damaging the hob. Stoves 600CTH - PCB packed in after 3 years Advantages: Looks good and is easy to clean Disadvantages: Hasn't lasted, major delay on replacement PCB part We bought our Stoves Touch Control Frameless ceramic hob 3 years ago and the PCB has gone. Stoves said it would cost either £250 to fix or we could take an insurance policy that was £100 cheaper and it would cover the cost of the part being fixed and we'd also have a warranty for a year. We took the policy believing this to be a good deal. But part due to come in Jan and has stilll not arrived and it is March.
