A perfect kitchen gadget in One Touch!
Advantages: easy to use, would suit those who find regular openers awkward Disadvantages: may be difficult to remove the battery cover
The humble can opener . . . an overlooked piece of equipment. Something taken for granted in the kitchen. You clip it on, you hold the handles together and you turn the little handle until you get to the end of the cut section of lid, don't you? Unfortunately not in my case. To give some background, thanks to breathing problems shortly after birth, I have limited use of my left hand. Despite my best efforts, fine skills like writing or anything that ... ...As are can openers - my grip can't hold the two "arms" together (plus most can opener arms are too wide when together for me to hold comfortably) and turning the handle round takes such a effort that it makes my whole arm ache. I'm not joking when I say I once spent twenty minutes trying to open a Heinz Syrup Sponge Pudding with a traditional can opener - it sounds ridiculous but I was so frustrated with the can, the opener and my physical limitations ...

Vacuum sealing food the easy way
Advantages: Easy to operate Disadvantages: It is a bit fiddly
...so when I saw that JML had got their own channel I couldn't resist watching it one wet afternoon recently. They were doing a demonstration of the JML Vacuum Food Sealer and I was intrigued as I sat and watched.
Basically it is a very simple machine which will either vacuum seal food into polythene bags or just seal (without vacuum). It looked pretty simple and effective and they were demonstrating a range of uses for it. Given that I cook a lot ... ...arrived the day after. The JML Vacuum Food Sealer isn't exactly cheap at £39.99 but it is quite robust and it is simplicity itself to use. All you do is to plug it into the mains, press two buttons on the top to release the cover and place your polybag with the edges for sealing on the machine. Close the lid, press the appropriate button for either 'seal only' or 'vacuum seal' and the machine does the rest. Once the bag is sealed the light on the ...

Quick and Easy Spaghetti
Advantages: simple to use, hassle free Disadvantages: lid can be hard to fasten, not great for pasta
I was given a pasta express magic pasta cooker as a novelty gift last christmas. It wasn't something I'd ever seen before or would have bought for myself, but as a gift it was certainly different.
The Product
The product is very simple and basic. It's a long, clear cylinder, which is open at one end. Contained in the box is also a yellow plastic lid, which comes in two parts that slot together - the first is larger and has wholes in (this ... ...over to ensure that the pasta is fully covered. I usually add a little salt at this point too, for flavouring. The yellow lids are placed on top to seal and the heat proof pad placed around the tube. This is simply left for 10-15 minutes and then the top part of the lid is removed and the water can be poured out the top of the tub via the strainer (this stops the pasta falling out). The pasta is then cooked and is ready to serve.
My opinion

A great cheap set of scales (Argos Value Range Mechanical Scale)
Advantages: Store away well, incredibly cheap and do the job Disadvantages: Ugly looking
...I had a look at Argos online to see which ones they had available in my local store and I found a set for a massive £3.99, ok so they didn't look that pretty but that didn't bother me as they where going to live in a cupboard until I needed them, so off I popped to pick them up. On opening the box I was quite surprised to see that the scales actually felt a little more substantial than they looked in the picture, I expected them to be made of a cheap ... ...strong. The scales are quite a good size (24cm tall, 14cm deep and 16cm wide, the tray on the top of the scales is also reasonably deep (7cm) so you can get quite a lot in it (1.2 litres), they have a 11lb weighing capacity (I only ever go up to 1lb though) and overall I would say they are quite accurate. These scales also store away well, if you press down the bit that the tray sits on you can slot the scales inside the weighing tray so they are ...

A great coffee maker for a busy day/schedule
Advantages: Large variety of K cups, very convenient and fast Disadvantages: doesn't brew very much per brew, and only 1 temperature setting: VERY HOT
I would recommend this product to the everyday average coffee drinker. Its main advantage is that it is a very quick way to make a cup of coffee. It brews a good cup of coffee also. There are a large variety of the K cups that you can purchase, and there are reusable K cups that you can fill with your own grind. You can also purchase cups that brew tea and hot cocoa, unfortunately the cocoa is not very tasty. The main disadvantage of this product ... ...what I would consider a moderate sized coffee cup. When I take a travel cup in the car it takes two large brews with two K cups to fill it. Overall this is a great product, and is a very useful appliance to have around the house, but I wouldn't use it to replace your regular auto drip or percolator. ...
