I'm one of these people who believe in paying that little bit extra for hankies as I have suffered from hayfever for many years and hate the small, thin and easily torn tissues that barely survive one blow before disintegrating in your hands leaving that horrible mess that no one likes to get. I'm one of these people who believe in paying that little bit extra for hankies as I have suffered from hayfever for many years and hate the small, thin and easily torn tissues that barely survive one blow before disintegrating in your hands leaving that horrible mess that no one likes to get. I also hate when your nose gets so red in the middle of summer it looks like you've been sunburnt when you haven't been able to venture out without sneezing.
My hayfever isn't as bad these days but both my daughters suffered quite badly this year and they were very grateful that I am not one to go for the cheap variety of tissues. My son also tends to get colds constantly at this time of year and these are great for tackling him with (literally as like most young kids he hates blowing his nose) as they don't tear easily.
Kleenex are part of the Kimberly-Clark company who were founded in Wisconsin in 1872 so are a well established and trusted company. It wasn't until 1924 in the US though that the facial tissues were introduced (the Uk started to see them a year later) although after much research it was discovered people used them more for handkerchiefs than for removing makeup so the company changed their advertising strategy and sales went through the roof.
Manufacturing in the UK started after the war in Kent when it was realised that importing this product could not always be relied on. This then led to the introduction of the man size tissues which were aimed for the bigger sneezer with the slogan "stays strong when wet". The 3 ply tissues came next in 1978 which I remember my mum buying all the time and that is probably why I have stuck with this brand throughout the years. Handy packs came next closely followed by the introduction of the Ultra Tissues range which were made softer by adding a lotion to the fabric to make them more gentle on your poor nose when you are suffering. They were then rebranded as UltraSoft in 1996 and have stayed as such ever since. Coming in mansize, regular size, box size and handy pack pocket sized packs there is a right size for everyone.
Of course there are other products in the Kleenex range such as the Balsam range which has a this layer of calendula in them which helps prevent your nose looking like a clown and are especially recommended for those suffering with hayfever or a cold. There are also the Kleenex wipes available now for use on days out and great for wiping sticky fingers after a picnic. You can also get the Kleenex normal tissues which are available in twin pack boxes so work out a little bit cheaper and there are still Kleenex for Men and the lovely Collection cube shaped boxes which come is 3 designs and look nice in any room. There are facial tissues and even a travellers pack specially designed to fit in your glove compartment of car door.
For those worried about the waste and damage to the environment caused by using disposable tissues Kimberley-Clark have strict policies to deal with this. They plant double the amount of trees they cut down, have energy conservation mills which use less fuel and they believe greatly in recycling. Good to know in these days of throw away mentality that is more convenient to most of us. They do not use wood taken from Rainforests either which is of great significance.
The tissues themselves are made from wood pulp from a selection of fast growing species of trees such as aspen, maple, spruce, fir and eucalyptus which have thin wood fibres and this helps make the tissues so soft and absorbent. The wood is then cut into logs which are then washed and have their bark stripped off before chipping takes place. The non-cellulosic materials are then removed which separates the fibres and then they can be dried in sheets to be wound into large rolls before being cut to size and put together to make the tissues.
I have tried other tissues but the UltraSoft are my favourite and I do love the softness compared to other own brand makes. I usually buy the mansize as I can't be doing with the small tissues although the handy packs are great for giving to the kids for their schoolbags. This is one product I'm afraid that you do have to pay extra for but they are well worth it. Prices vary from shop to shop but I've put a list together for the different products below:-
Family 3 ply twinpack - £1.90 For Men 2 ply twinpack - £2.75 Plus Balsam 3 ply Regular Twinpack - £2.90 UltraSoft 3 ply Mansize - £1.45 Plus Balsam 3 ply Mansize - £1.65 6 Pocket Pack - 99p 10 wipes 99p
So what are you waiting for - go get them before the cold season really starts.

...first sneeze!
The specific Kleenex tissues about which I am talking here are the standard family ones, which come in a box containing 88 sheets of three-ply tissues. Incidentally this equates to an area of 3.6 square metres. There’s something for the next trivia quiz!
They are made by Kimberley Clark Ltd of UKP88 Freepost, West Malling, Kent. ME10 4BR, telephone 1800 626008.
They also have a web site at www.kleenex.com.
The boxes are usually ... ...in both softness and strength. Kleenex tissues are very strong and very soft, especially useful when I have a cold.
I find that if I use the cheaper tissues when I have a cold I end up looking like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer! I know that this is very seasonal but it does nothing for my street cred!
However with Kleenex tissues I find that my nose is saved from all the soreness of my cold by the softness of the tissues.
As the tissues are three ...

They are Kleenex tissues.
They are ultra soft.
They come in packs of nine, and they cost about 30p.
What are they like? Well, these fine tissues that are make by Kimberly Clark are approximately 21cm square, and as I said they come in packs of nine. This intrigues me somewhat. Why nine? Is it because the packaging only limits it to use nine inside? Why not ten? That is a rounder number. Could it be for some superstitious reason? ... ...get one of those ugly red noses that make me look like I have been over doing it with the Famous Grouse.

...after receiving a box of Kleenex which were on offer at £1.88 for a twin pack I nearly had a heart attack, but I really do notice the difference.
My usual cheap tissues are 1 ply things that if you sneeze on well I won't go into detail but you can imagine what is left of the tissue. However, these lovely lovely Kleenex tissues are 3 ply and hold together after a sneeze or two and are really soft against your nose. Which wouldn't normally matter ... ...the world's best known products, Kleenex Facial Tissue, was introduced. The tissues were initially marketed as a cold cream remover but consumer tests showed more people were using them as disposable handkerchiefs. The company changed its advertising to emphasise the new usage and sales doubled in their first year.
In 1925, Kleenex Facial Tissues were launched in the UK and at the time they were imported from Canada and the USA.
In 1952, as a result ...

The tissues themselves are white; 15cm squared and are very soft to the touch. Even when damp following use they remain remarkably strong and do not turn into a form of paper mache. Not only are they absorbent when I use them to blow my nose they equally remove dirt and dust from my PC screen and glasses lens when required making them multifunctional.

Reviews which might be of interest for "Kleenex Tissues"
It's pretty much a fact of life that every now and again we fall victim to a cold. When you're feeling rough and have a nose that won't stop running it's the small comforts that get you through, this is why I've decided to do a review on tissues. Not to be the kind to settle for bogroll, or worse, kitchen roll I like the softest kind of tissue to blow my nose on, that being Kleenex Balsam tissue.
Back in the mid ninties Kleenex released their Ultra line. This soon branched off into Kleenex UltraSoft and UltraBalm, the latter being rebranded a couple of years later (to avoid confusion presumably).
I was quite sceptical of their claims to relieve the sore raw nose that accompanies a cold when I was first made aware of them, I'd always thought a tissue is a tissue. But once you try them there's no going back, good bye cheap own brands ...
Advantages: Kills germs and viruse, good for kids Disadvantages: Price, advised not to use twice
At this time of year and especially when we are told we are in for a bad winter as they are saying now we need to have all our weapons ready.
Yes we have the flu jabs as widely see on the news recently and we have our tablets cough medicine, we even have vitamins and build me ups and the odd hot toddy.
We usually have a hanky or box of tissue when the sniffely nose comes along but did you know about these Kleenex Anti-Viral Tissues.
They are an extremely good idea, when you sneeze have a blocked nose or need to blow it using the same hanky or rough tissues make you sore and can make you nose and cold situation worse.
Having hype at the moment about flu has increased most people’sknowledge of flu, and they are taking it upon themselves to do something regarding protection.
So anything that helps with easing ...
Advantages: kills 99% of germs Disadvantages: Irritates your skin
the middle layer of the 3 ply tissue that are responsible for killing the 99% of germs.
They are Citric Acid and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate.
Now Kleenex state that both these ingredients are everyday household products. Well I checked around my house and found a lemon in my fridge which accounts for the citric acid but the Sodium Lauryl Sulfate?. Not a sign of it. So what is it exactly ?
Well believe it or not, its a chemical used in the cleaning industry as an engine degreaser. Its also used on garage floors to get rid of all those nasty oil marks and is a rather corrosive chemical.
Still wanna rub that tissue on your nose ?
Another use for this chemical is in medicine. Ahh a sigh of relief I hear. Can't be all that bad eh ?
Well medical laboratories use this chemical to irritate the skin on both human and non-human test subjects so ...
