Advantages: A relaxing place for a few days break Disadvantages: It's much too far away from London
In February I visited Monterey, a beautiful town on the central coast of California about 110 miles south of San Francisco which has become a popular tourist resort.
Why Monterey?
This town is 2-3 hours by road from San Francisco, less from the airport or from San Jose and Silicon Valley, and I think about 6 or 7 hours drive from Los Angeles. Because of its location and attractiveness, it has become a popular choice for conventions, and an event was organised there for readers and writers of mystery and crime fiction called Left Coast Crime over a long weekend in February. Hundreds of us descended on the town for a few days. Mikey and I arrived on Tuesday.
Because of the convention (held at the Doubletree Hotel 5 minutes walk from the centre of town from Thursday afternoon to Sunday lunchtime), spending time with a large gang ...
Advantages: Fastpass system really helps with queues Disadvantages: Small park so gets cramped very quickly
Disneyland California the first ever Disney park I visited and also the first ever Disney Theme Park opened on July 17th 1955.
Located in Anaheim, California, Disneyland California consists of 2 theme parks, Disneyland Park and Disney's California Adventure Park, 3 resort hotels, Disneyland Hotel, Disney's Grand Californian and Disney's Paradise Pier and Downtown Disney for all your shopping, dining and entertainment needs.

I always would recommend purchasing your tickets before you leave the UK as you tend to get better value. You can purchase 2,3,4 and 5 day hopper tickets allowing you access to both parks starting from £65 per adult and at least you don't have to queue up to purchase tickets when you arrive.
*~*Disneyland Park*~*
As with all Disney Parks there are themed areas, at the entrance you will ...
Advantages: Mentions places of interest which you might otherwise miss, cheap too. Disadvantages: Written in 2003/2004 so some prices / information might be slightly outdated
In June 2007 my husband and I took a fly drive holiday to California. Being the kind of person who?s almost anal in their preparation for any holiday, I started scouting around for books to take with us months beforehand.
This was one that I bought, I think from Waterstones, who had the best selection of travel books I could find.
With only 64 pages, (three of which are the index) it?s not as bulky as the usual Lonely Planet guidebooks, but it?s specifically aimed at those driving down (or up) what is supposedly one of the most beautiful drives in the world - the wonderful Highway 1 in California.
The most northerly town this covers is Fort Bragg, about halfway between San Francisco and the Redwood national Park to the north. The most southerly is Laguna Beach in Greater Los Angeles.
There?s a small paragraph describing each ...
