I have read one Hutson book before and it was quite good, nothing special but good. This felt like he was just churning it out to pay the bills. He is obviously a good writer and the book was very easy to get into. Knife edge is a reasonably common thriller, set over the period of one day. An ex-para Neville finding hard to believe that peace is iminent in Northern Ireland, threatens to set off several bombs in London with a gap of 1 hour between each unless he is given his daughter in the custody of his ex-wife. Doyle (very similar to the character of Gibbs in Lethal Weapon and even has the dead wife thing going on) is a counter-terrorist expert assigned the job of finding Neville killing him before the bombs go off. Not surprising he is always close to getting him but always misses out and so this goes on for the majority of the book. Of course some of the bombs go off but Doyle gets him in the end.
I was very disapointed with this book as I quite enoyed Renegade (in which the character Doyle first appeared, I think) but the character of Doyle hasn't progressed at all and the other characters in this book where just awful, and I just didn't feel that there was any suspense.
Having only read two of Shaun Hutson books, I would hope that this is the worst he has ever had publish, because I would not recommend this to my worst enemy, don't waste your time reading this. Go and watch the Leathal Weapon Films they done it much better.

Set during the height of the Northern Irish Troubles this is a fast paced thriller which pits the quick witted hero against the criminal geniuses of the IRA and their bombing regime.
The story is tight, the characters well developed and accessible enough, for a good read whether that be on the Tube or on holiday. But for those ...
