I was fortunate enough to have received a Kodak DC215 with my PC in September 1999. When I say fortunate I am of course being a little modest! I can not imagine how my life would be now without my camera!
It all started in the summer of 1999. I had a laptop (a little slow and clumsy, but it worked). I was very happy with it until the age of digital cameras dawned upon us like a tidal wave over a city! I had thought about buying one, and at the time the 215 was £450, a little steep compared to today's lower price, but it seemed worth it, after all this was pretty top end for the time. Anyway, later that summer I ACCIDENTALLY dropped my laptop and it broke- so I went shopping for a new PC and got the DC215 with it for no extra cost! I was excited!
The 215 was one of the first "megapixel" cameras- meaning each photograph (or cybergraph as digital photos are becoming known) was compiled of up to one million pixels- the little squares you see when you zoom in to a picture on your PC.
The camera is aesthetically perfect, a sleek aluminium body, cold to the touch, but extremely rewarding. It weighs in at about 400g with batteries in, which might seem a bit heavy, but in this world where everything is getting lighter, you really want a camera you know is there!
The camera is as you might think, extremely robust and has not been damaged nor scathed at all in the past two years of heavy usage.
I have taken more than 5000 pictures in the past two years, many of these photos are on my PC and many have been added to my website (please see my profile to find my homepage address).
There are numerous things you can do with digital photos, add them to reports, e-mails, and websites. Save yourself lots of money on film processing from film cameras. And with the amazing software bundled in with the camera you can edit your photos to enhance them, repair them or change them totally! If you do not believe me, send me your photo to scotty037@yahoo.com and I will edit it and send it back! Adobe Photo Deluxe 3.1 is indeed a more than satisfactory software to have, and allows ease of use and at the same time allows more advanced users the opportunity to work on more complex projects.
The camera comes with a 4MB Compact Flash card, but if you want to take high quality images, I’d recommend upgrading to a 16MB or higher, so you can store more images! The camera can store your files in either JPEG or Flashpix format, but JPEG is the most commonly used image format, and is favoured online. 4 AA sized batteries power the camera, so I’d recommend buying some rechargeable NI-Mh batteries as they last a great deal longer and work out MUCH cheaper in the long run! You can buy a power pack for it as I did, but it costs £70! I rarely use mine!
The supplied connections give you the ability to download to your PC though a serial cable, and also a cable to show your photos on a TV, however, any pictures taken in portrait are shown on the TV in landscape! In truth though, I have only used the TV cable ONCE, as I prefer using the PC to edit photos. In regard to the PC cable, the serial connection is much too slow especially if you take a large number of photos, and so I’d recommend buying a Compact Flash Card disc drive for about £30. This allows for easier transfer of images to your PC.
One aspect of the camera which is quite fun is an ability to make your own templates, which when selected are printed on each picture, for example, if you designed a frame, you could have every picture taken framed by your design.
One major flaw is the fact that there is no case supplied to protect your camera, Kodak’s official case will set you back almost £40, so I opted for my mum’s camera case from her old 35mm. It has worked just fine so far! Touch wood!
And finally, the one major problem I encountered stemmed from the battery tray. I was constantly using it to change the batteries and over the two years the catch became loosened, so I sent it back to Kodak since it was still under guarantee, and they repaired it within a fortnight.
All in all though, this is a great starter camera and is easy enough to use by the whole family!
Advantages: good value, excellent quality, easy to operate Disadvantages: fragile components
I never thought of writing something on this camera but I should have done it a long time ago. It really deserves we stop a moment to consider its beneficial support and part in the world of technology…maybe not with my words mind you. I am not very good at using technical terms when it comes to cameras (or any other specific products) so I kept this review simple and hopefully useful and informative. How did we end up buying the DC215? Well it was ... ...years ago. Lucky us? Yes quite a bit for the camera but the PC is another story. In fact we were not supposed to get this very unique camera but an Agfa that has also the function of a webcam. To us it looks far too cheap when you compare it to the PC specifications. As my partner and I were aware of the money invested in the computer we openly shared our views with the sales assistant and requested a better quality camera and a separate webcam. ...

Advantages: easy to use, good picture quality, limited only to size of flash card you can afford Disadvantages: batteries dont last long, not as many features as top of the range
The kodak dc215 is an excellent digital camera, for anyone on a budget.
At a mere £200 (ish) it is not the cheapest, but value for money it is an excellent buy.
What I like is the way it looks and feels like a normal 35mm camera, it is slightly heavier but that is not a problem.
It doesn't boast the features of some of the more expensive models, but for the average person this is ideal.
It was recommended to me by a photographer friend, so it ... ...would recommend at least looking at this camera if you are considering buying a digital camera, try it out in the shop (i did), compare it with other makes and models, and believe me you will choose the kodak.
To me kodak are cameras, a name you know and trust! ...

...with this amazing bargain that KODAK boasts to the digital camera market. It's interesting to compare the DC215 up against other, more expensive, and apparently more 'advanced' cameras. Advantages: Immediate viewing, excellent zoom, light adjustment function, flash on/off, good quality. Disadvantages: Not enough memory on card that comes with camera
...could trust. The Kodak DC 215 was an excellent choice. Not only are there easy to follow on screen instructions but you can view and change the setting to your hearts content and then view the picture while the 'moment' is still there. It's quite a heavy camera for it's small size which could be a strain on the neck (in a carry case). With immediate upload to my photo editor, my pictures are edited and up online within minutes. This product is ideal ... ...the only drawback was the small amount of memory you get with the camera, storing approximately 10 good quality pictures. I purchased an additional memory card which holds approx. 55 good quality pictures at a cost of £49.99. Battery life is very poor so I have invested in rechargables. As you can see, the money is now mounting up. Of course you don't have to have the extra memory card but what if you are away on holiday for instance? Are 10 pictures ...

For a couple of years now I have been using a KodakDC215 digital camera. An excellent camera, but my daughter was spending a fortune in films and processing for her portfolio for college. I gave her my digital camera to alleviate the costs.
To replace it I decided to go for a higher resolution, choosing the Sony DSC-P71, mainly on the 3.2 megapixel basis, and the price it was on offer in duty free at Schipol airport.
Once I became familiar with everything and started using it, I became well impressed with the results.
The quality of images at the hi res settings are superb, albeit memory hungry at these settings. i.e. on the 16mB memory stick that was supplied with the camera I could only fit 10 images. If your lower the resolution or set to standard image then you can double that number. The results are still good at the lower ...
Advantages: Dead easy to use..........honestly! Disadvantages: I don't think there are any, I am way content with mine.
bike. Photography is only a hobby for me but one that I have recently extended to, in photographing certain subjects in order to design my own greetings cards, this being one of the reasons I wanted an easy to use digital camera.
I did a fair bit of research before settling on this one, checking reviews here on Ciao, and surfing for price comparisons. Because there are so many digital cameras on the market I pared my choices down to two, this one and the Kodak something or other (think it was the DC215). Both these cameras had been recommended to me by colleagues. My budget was one of the factors I had to take into account, this being £200 or thereabouts, the other factor was pixels. This is as far as I wanted to go as specs were involved, I just knew that I wanted something of 2million or above for the kind of pictures I wanted from ...
The Kodak DC215 is the choice for anyone who loves taking, making and creating beautiful pictures. The DC215 Zoom Digital Camera is an outstanding value for creative picture takers. Megapixel resolution and 2X optical zoom provide amazing detail and vibrant color. There's a 1.8" color LCD that lets you review and preview your pictures, and a 4 MB Picture Card that stores up to 54 standard-resolution pictures. It's a snap to use, thanks to an award-winning interface and controls. And we've packed all this functionality into a silver metal-skinned design, among the most compact on the market.
