A Reliable Photographic Friend!

Advantages: Ease of use, reliability
Disadvantages: Bulky, a bit outdated now

The Kodak DC280 is a 2.0 Megapixel digital zoom camera. I purchased this camera on behalf of the company I work for and paid £350 for it about 3 years ago.

At the time I purchased this camera I thought that it was pretty good value for money considering the ease of use and features it had. At that time 2.0 Megapixels was a pretty good picture quality, just shows how times move on with 8 Megapixel and better cameras now on the market!
...is double clicking on the Kodak icon in My Computer (on the Windows desktop), opening up a series of folders and then you should be shown a list of the pictures on the camera. These photos will be recognised as JPEG images on your computer, which means that they will open up with pretty much any photo editing package you happen to have installed.

Conclusion
Ease of use and reliability are the two good reasons for considering ... more

Kodak DC 280 Superb

Advantages: Easy to use, superb quality pictures
Disadvantages: spare set of charged batteries need to be carried.

I purchased a Kodak DC 280 camera in June and have found it to be easy to use and capable of producing excellent pictures. Anyone would be able to use it very quickly. The only criticisms have been stated as 'heavy on batteries' and 'heavy to hold' whilst this is true, the latter is, I think, an advantage; it is much easier to hold the camera still which is essential when taking indoor pictures without flash. It also seems more substantial and well ...
...if you use the viewing window and forget to turn it off. But I feel the batteries do last a fair time. They charge quite quickly but it would be an advantage to carry a spare set. My camera came with 8 MB card (which only holds 12 pictures at best quality) but it is possible to purchase cards at double this capacity. The price of £380 was excellent. I could not find another camera at 2 mega pixel and with a zoom and digital zoom for this price. ...

...do in this fast-developing marketplace, Kodak has kept pace and the company's latest camera utilises what the box refers to as '2.0 Megapixel' CCD technology. This effectively means that you can take pictures at up to a huge 1760 x 1168 resolution. Although the resulting downloaded images are many megabytes in size, it does mean that they approach the image quality of scanned photographic prints, particularly when outputting on high quality inkjet ...
...To supposedly make it easier, Kodak use icons for the camera functions but neglect to provide a text description. However, these icons are often difficult to figure out and take some getting used to. The manual suffers from the same approach - it's so eager to take you through picture taking step by step that finding out specific details quickly, such as how to set the camera for very best image quality, can be difficult. There are lots of clever little features on the camera, like the facility for putting frames around your pictures, but I prefer to do this sort of thing later on a PC. Flash pictures aren't brilliant, but then most small cameras struggle. The flash causes shadows, and is only good from a few feet away from the subject. All in all, I'm ...

Nice camera - just don't buy one!

Advantages: Nice camera that takes fairly good pictures
Disadvantages: As fragile as glass

" message. I dare say that it would cost nearly as much to repair this camera as it cost in the first place (everything seems to be designed to be disposable rather than repairable these days). So I will simply return to my old trusty Kodak DC280 which still takes beautiful pictures despite its age and having been treated roughly for about 7 years - including being dropped more times than I could even begin to estimate, sometimes onto very hard surfaces and even into puddles. ...

Review of Canon Digital IXUS 800 IS

A very impressive camera

Advantages: Quality of photos, features, size, ease of use
Disadvantages: So small you might lose it!

At work we?ve been using a Kodak DC280 for about 3 years. This camera has put in a good service, but after so much use and knocks, it is starting to look a bit worse for wear. Time then for a new digital camera! After some research on various models, we decided to go for the Canon IXUS I camera as this seemed to offer very good features, combined with a reasonable price tag (around £250). What?s in the box? As well as the digital camera, you are also supplied with the following: A comprehensive instruction manual Guarantee and registration material Software starter guide USB lead Audio/Video lead Canon Digital Camera software ArcSoft Camera Suite 1.2 software Rechargeable battery Battery Charger SD Memory card Specifications This is a 4.0 megapixel camera. It has a 5.7 times digital zoom facility ...

latigiD Heaven Update

Advantages: Simple to use. Great pictures
Disadvantages: Heavy battery use

Because I own the Kodak DC240 this review has to be about that model but it is identical to the DC280 except for one feature. The DC280 has an ISO setting to enable the user to take pictures in relatively dark places without using flash whereas the DC240 does not. Being automatic cameras it is the shutter speed that varies depending on the light conditions of the subject to maintain the correct exposure. However at slower speeds any slight camera shake or subject movement will produce a blurred picture so the ISO setting enables the user to increase the speed whilst at the same time maintaining the correct exposure settings. Presumably the aperture size increases to compensate but the trade of is that the depth of field is reduced. The rest of this review applies to both models and in fact the manual is for both models. The Kodak DC ...
