I was looking for a Digital camera that could produce at least 2 Megapixel pictures and the Kodak DC280 seems the ideal candidate. One Megapixel cameras are fine for small reprints or web pictures but the extra quality of a 2 Mpixel machine can produce reasonable prints upto 10" x 8".
This camera is extremely easy and friendly to use. USB connection is very handy, serial connection is a very slow. Since a use my pictures on a laptop, I use a PC card reader is access the pictures directly from the compactflash card. This is quick and easy.
The zoom has a useful focal length range of 30mm to 60mm (equivalent on an SLR camera). This is wide enough for the indoor shots and at 60mm is good for portraits. Models like the Kodak DC240 only go down to 38mm, but this just doesn't seem to me to be wide enough.
There are lots of clever little features on the camera, like the facility for putting frames around your pictures, but I prefer to do this sort of thing later on a PC.
Flash pictures aren't brilliant, but then most small cameras struggle. The flash causes shadows, and is only good from a few feet away from the subject.
All in all, I'm very pleased with my choice of camera. At £363 from Jessops I price matched it to a mail order price. A bargain when you consider other similar cameras are retailing at up to around £500.
