The instant you pick up the Kodak DC-4800, you realize this camera will soon be the benchmark others will be measured against. There are a lot of more than 3 megapixel cameras coming on the market now, but this camera won't get lost in the herd, once the word gets out.
This camera is more of a "photographer's camera" than a computing tool. I like it much better than the popular DC 280. For one thing, the lens cap stays on, even when the lens is extended.
The DC4800 handles like an analog camera which, in my view, isn't a bad thing. The placement of the knobs and dials are in logical places. Unlike a lot of digital cameras, which require you to punch through menu upon menu of LCD screens just to change the exposure, this camera has nice clear knobs and dials.
The zoom lens is smooth and fast. It's also nice to have a digital camera offering a 28mm wide-angle lens. Many cameras focus on the tele mode, forgetting there are some of us who want to capture grand vistas.
With the DC4800 you can select ISO values, use automatic and manual shutter speed and f-stop settings, and use 6X zoom (3X optical and 2X digital). This camera has a point-and-shoot design with optical manual controls. Image color modes such as saturated, neutral, black-and-white, or sepia are nice but I don't use them much. I prefer to capture the raw, high-res file and manipulate it on the desktop. This is one of the few digital cameras offering simple light sensitivity controls, at 100, 200, and 400 ISO.
Also, it's got a neat recharging function; you just plug the camera into the wall and it recharges. You don't have to remove the battery at all.
I have a couple of small beefs with the camera; the flash has to be manually raised, which can interfere with shooting. It really should pop up automatically. Also, the on/off button is in an odd position: It sits in the middle of the exposure mode dial, right behind the shutter release. I caught myself pressing this button instead of the shutter occasionally. A mild inconvenience but irritating nonetheless.
The camera's included bundle is good, but not great: KODAK DC4800 Zoom Digital Camera with lens cap. Lithium-ion battery Neck strap KODAK Picture Card (16 Mb CompactFlash) AC Adapter USB cable Video output cable for TV viewing. DC4800 Zoom Camera User's Guide, and a Quick Start pamphlet. A complete line of lenses and filters is available. The lens mount is 43mm.
Advantages: good looking Disadvantages: not very many setting that you can change
The Kodak DC 4800 is small, good loking and very light. The Kodak DC 4800 has a 2.3 megapixels CCD which takes pictures at a resolution of 1,900 by 1,220 but can be reduced to 800 by 600 to reduce file size and fit more pictures onto the camera. There is not enough settings that you can change really apart from the "Flash Mode". The camera has a zoom function which is digital not optical. I found the camera very easy to use, and I am very good at ... ...the budget cameras like the Kodak EZ200 or the Cool I-cam. There is a clear difference in colour between itself and the Cool I-cam, the colour is more bold and sharper. For £350 I would not recommend this camera because it is a bit too pricey, I would wait for the new Kodak camera to come out which will cost £150, and don't buy if you like to change settings! ...

Advantages: 35mm ergonomics with lots of dials, very fast Disadvantages: CF Type I only, no manual focus
The Kodak DC4800 is Kodak's consumer digital camera flagship today (Nov.2000). It has a different design compared to past consumer cameras - this one has a more traditional 35mm film camera design. The camera provides you with a maximum of 3.1Megapixel resolution in three levels of JPG and an uncompressed TIFF option. It provides aperture priority, programmed ae and full manual exposure. Aperture priority can be set by the dial on top without resorting ... ...inconsistency -- it blinks but image captured is sharp and focused
Kodak has been informed of this problem and is now working on a fix for it.
The DC4800 is the best long-time exposure performer at the moment. Images captured at 16second shutter speeds are virtually noise free. ...

Advantages: Small, compact with wide angle Disadvantages: No spare battery
This is probably the only camera with built in wide angle to 28mm to 84mm, which is great for any estate agents out there, landscape photographers or for taking pictures in tight spaces. All the others you have to add an extra lens to, to create a wide angle. It's very compact, fast and comes packaged with a great content too. Everything you need: Kodak's premium pack, Large Bag, Camera, 16MB Compact Flash card plus extra 32MB Compact Flash card, ...

...fell in love with the Kodak DC 4800 for the following reasons
*Kodak is a name I trust.
*It had 3.1 Megapixel uncompressed resolution (which was very good back then)
*3 x zoom optical
*2 x zoom digital
*Had a viewing screen on the rear
*Does all the things my happy snappy cameras did
So what functions are there on the camera I hear you ask (oh yes I so! Or is that just the voices inside my head again?) Well you get these:
## Camera top / ... ...good instruction manual, and a Kodak CD rom for uploading pics and a whole other range of stuff including a link so that you can update the camera’s onboard software over the Internet.
The software is compatible is suitable for Win98, ME, XP (so I am told) Win 2000 and Mac O/S, load to computer with a USB connecter, software easy to use, however I just slip the photo card into my HP photosmart 7350 printer - it cuts out the middleman sort of thing! ...

Advantages: large memory, easy to use Disadvantages: relativly expensive
...research I plumped for the Kodak DC4800.
I bought it mainly for the resolution (a massive 3.1 megapixals) and the extras that were on offer from Dixon’s. These included a carry case, lens cleaner, but best of all a free 32 MB picture card. This meant that with the 16 MB card included as standard I could take around 60 high quality pictures before needing to download onto a computer. The camera also boasted built in flash, auto-exposure and ... ...home it exceeded my expectations. As an experienced film photographer I expected some loss of definition but in fact in most cases each picture is of equal or even better resolution. The camera is comfortable to hold and extremely easy to use.
With two small children I have already saved a fortune in film development. Although the camera is relatively expensive at £499 I consider it well worth the price. ...

Picture tearful boy - "It wasn?t my fault - it wasn?t honestly, I was taking a photo of Sam and I just dropped it!"
I did the day I bought my Kodakdc4800 (also reviewed). Knowing my boys like my toys as well as theirs I looked into getting something they could use and wouldn?t reduce me to tears once it got broken!
So I looked on all the usual internet sites, and ended up on Ebay, what I had in mind was a simple to use camera ideally under £100 and had to be digital - I try to keep the boys as up to date as possible with IT even my youngest.
After a lot of looking and checking and researching I found what I was after:
The Jenoptic JD 800i - £100.00 it was at the top of the budget that I wanted to spend but for the features I was getting it was fine!
Heres the camera's details:

Advantages: Excellent picture quality, compact size, easy to use Disadvantages: Poor battery indicator, shutter speed can be a bit slow
I bought this camera a day before my holiday and have just come back after a week armed with nearly 1000 photos. It took only the afternoon after it arrived to go through the menus and get the hang of using it and after only a few photos I knew I had made an excellent choice.
Picture quality was definitely the most important factor for me and I have not been disappointed - quite the opposite in fact. I had my mums KodakDC4800 camera as a benchmark and didn't think I would get a camera with anything like the same picture quality within my budget let alone better, which this is, by some way at times. I use the medium quality setting (of 3) and the 2nd largest resolution (of 4) and get 1600x1200 pictures of the most amazing quality, even in dull weather.
The detail and sharpness is excellent and the focus superb. Half holding ...
Perfect for people who are passionate about photography, the Kodak DC4800 has the quality and convenience you've come to expect from Kodak.
