I bought this webcam ultimately to use for videoconferencing, but found that it was supplied with some excellent software to take pictures and edit them with ease which has come in very handy.
After looking at the variety of web cams out there, i choose this one as it was probably one of the best deals(and still is) in terms of reliablity, price and image quality. Looks a bit like a gadget from Star Trek, but it looks as good as it works. Image quality may degrade when using it for vc, but it also depends on your internet connection. I use it when the phone lines across the world are not busy, which means that the image is clear. Only major problem is that if you want to use it for more than photos of your local vacinity and explore the world - u can't - this is unlike the new type of web cams that are portable such as the "web cam go" by Creative. However you will find that the image quality of this camera is very good compared to others. When the camera is in a fixed position, the photo stream is good, and only starts jerking if the web cam is moved around a lot. Unlike the ball type cams, you cannot move the visor across every axis,(only up and down) which means if you move to the left or right, you have to physically pick up the camera - which should not really constitute to a downfall of this product.
The USB interface is up to 10 times faster than serial interfaces, for sharper videoconferencing and clearer communications. There's also still and video capture for up to 640 x 480 resolution, or up to 30 frames per second performance. Has an excellent auto-zoom facility.
For those that have laptops - you are catered for too with handy clip ons so you can take the cam out and about.
PC world charged £99 pounds, but the best deal comes from the net from gb.buy.com for £60. This in my opinion is an amazing deal.
Those who have family and friends abroad should buy this web cam if you want an image quality like the "3Com HomeConnect" which is very similar but priced much higher. Sending photos via email is easy to do with the camera - press one button to capture one photo, or to capture a stream of delayed photos - this camera is a well rounded piece of kit. Believe me at this price it cannot be beaten. The best one on the market is considered to be the Homeconnect, but going for the kodak, you will get the same noticable performance for a cheaper price.
