I bought this camera for my 17 year old daughters birthday present. I was looking for an affordable camera that would give good quaity snapshot photos for holidays and parties.
I paid £40 for this camera so price wise this camera has to score full marks. A 4.0mp camera for £40 is incredile value.
When it arrived it was well packaged and was supplied with 2 non rechargeable batteries, a strap already connected, Kodak Easyshare software, A cable to connect to USB and a manual.
Having popped the batteries into the camera it was very simple to use, set the dial to the camera logo and point and shoot. By default the camera is set to 4.0mp and auto setting so it's point and shoot out of the box.
The photos taken in all light levels were excellent and the flash seems quite powerful. The camera also seemed very light making it ideal for children. The camera also has settings for black & white and sepia which is pretty cool. You can also lower the quality settings and adjust the colour balance should you so choose. Although there is no optical zoom, at £40 I don't think there is any justification in complaining about this and the digital zoom is more than adequate for the needs of most people buying a camera in this price range.
Now a lot of reviews complain that it only takes about 15 photos at 4.0mp. While this is true I don't see this as a fair complaint. As far as I am concerned when you buy a digital camera you should also buy a memory card for it. I purchased a 512mb sdcard to go with this camera. This is the maximum capacity the camera states it can take and with this card in it takes in excess of 600 photos at 4.0mp. This card will set you back another £5 and if you pay much more than that you are being robbed.
Another issue people have is with the batteries. This camera is no heavier on batteries than any digital camera. The camera has the option to turn off the screen and use the viewfinder instead. If you do this the camera will happily take hundreds of photos (even with the flash on) before the batteries die a death. Even so a set of rechargeable batteries included would have been nice and I would recommend them as an extra purchase if you are going to be using the camera a lot.
An item that should have been included is some sort of case. The camera doesn't have a lens cover and as such I think a case should have been supplied as standard. Points lost for this.
The camera has a video function, which works just fine but has no audio. I can't really comment on ths as I personally don't see why camera manufacturers include video capabilities but for those of you who want it, it's there, it works and it's silent.
A neat touch for those of you who like to communicate via e-mail etc (which I think includes most teenage girls in particular) is that this camera has some clever features. You can download 32 e-mail addresses into the camera for sending pics at the click of a button. This camera was designed for sharing your images via PC and the net and is very simple to use. Just connect to PC using cable and software suppled. Press a button on camera and choose your option. As simple as that.
The general build of this camera is good. It feels solid yet is very light, it fits easily into a pocket or small bag (perfect for at parties or on days out) and it is really simple to use. I recommend it!
