Advantages: Good value, picture quality, simple to use basic features, Easyshare system. Disadvantages: Software not the easiest to use, low built-in memory
I'm not particularly into photography in a big way, and just wanted a decent camera for taking family pictures and for being able to take digital photos of items to sell on auction sites. Not knowing the greatest amount about the features available, I went for the highest megapixel camera with the lowest price, and at 6.1 for under £200 I thought this was a pretty good deal. I've found the main advantage to be the 'Easyshare' system - if you're taking loads of pictures which you want to upload to your PC with minimum hassle, then a Camera dock is ideal - instead of having to mess around with USB cables you just literally sit the camera on a little stand and press one button and it transfers the pictures to the PC. On the downside, it did take a bit of messing around to try and work out how to get the pictures into files, rather than straight into the 'Easyshare' software - they automatically get put into albums and there is no option (or not that I can see) to then transfer them outside of the Easyshare files - you have to mess around with the settings so that they get put into another part of your computer and bypass the Easyshare albums altogether. Not a major problem once you've worked out how to do it, but for total novices like me it took a little while!
The Printer Dock is also worthwhile instead of the standard camera dock if you want to print your pics out - excellent quality, and although some retailers sell them for around £200, I spent a bit of time on the net and managed to pick one up brand new for £80. Again really simple to use, and although the specialist paper & cartridges are expensive (retail in PC stores at about £20-£25 for 40 sheets with a 40 picture print cartridge - you can get much better deals if you shop around), they do print out excellent 'real' photos like you'd expect from a non-digi processed film.
Using the camera itself is easy, although I'm not sure I'm taking full advantage of all the flashy features it has - general picture taking is simple, and there is a good choice of options which means that you can either use a fairly good range of Auto settings or set your own highly advanced settings. Screen shows a good representation of the photo, and is a decent size, although, as I think is the case with most screens, you've got to look at it from the right angle or you don't see anything! Lots of menu options if you're into that sort of thing - you can tell it to make funny noises and stuff when you press buttons! The internal memory isn't brilliant (runs out after about 15 photos, although I think you can reduce the resolution to squeeze more on), so unless you're only taking the occasional picture you need to buy an additional memory card which can be a bit pricey. Battery life is quite good, and when its on the dock it charges automatically although charging it this way is a bit slow - I usually just plug in the seperate battery charger. The camera is fairly average in size, so if you want a credit-card job, not the one for you, but fine for a handbag! Case has to be bought seperately.
Overall, I'm really happy with it. For basic amateur photography its great and very easy to use and I'd definately recommend it to others like myself, but DO shop around - I've seen it for sale for nearly £400, more than double what I paid, and I don't think its worth that.
Advantages: Looks great, excellent photo quality, amazing battery life Disadvantages: Battery clip fragile when dropped, no docking station
...sizes are manageable and the Kodak EasyShare software is a dream to use, although more editing tools would have been nice. Most of the time, you'll use the automatic mode to take your photos. But there are a whole host of preset settings, including modes for snow conditions, children's parties and even firework displays among many others. The more experienced photographer can take complete control of every aspect by altering focus, exposure, shutter ... ...you can't go wrong with Kodak for vivid colours. Indoor pictures suffer from the usual problem of lighting - the in-built flash is only really good for close-ups and results are variable - but this is a problem with all compact cameras. The unit also takes movie clips, in .mov format - picture and sound quality aren't great, but its a fun feature and the DX7630 doesn't pretend to be a video camera.
The unit itself is well designed. It has a chunkier ...

Advantages: Great value, 6.1 megapixels, easy to use but loads of features Disadvantages: Not the smallest camera, but still compact enough to look good and use easily
When looking for a digital camera to take on honeymoon last September, I was overwhelmed with a multitude of choices.
The problem was, none of the cameras I looked at seemed to boast a complete package. If it was small, good looking and cheap, it had only 4 megapixels. If it had the megapixels I wanted, it was expensive and ugly. Excuse the pun, but you get the picture.
So, on went the search, countless reviews were read, and then I stumbled upon ... ...5 megapixels to enable larger prints, and so the 6.1 megapixels on the DX7630 was ideal. The price wasn't too high for the amount of features at under £200, and in my opinion, it looks pretty neat too.
So, I took the plunge and bought one. When it arrived, I was impressed with the look and feel. It's not like these mathbox cameras you can get, but I actually prefer a camera that 'feels' like a camera, not a mobile phone. It has a comfortable, easy ...

Advantages: A really easy to use camera with lots of information actually on the camera screen Disadvantages: Does not have a visual battery indicator on screen until the battery has nearly depleted
...product. Since I bought this Kodak DX7630 he has taken some wonderful pictures, and not just using the auto function, he has spread his wings and has started using the other functions like the different scenes you can use i.e.: sports Macro, bright sunlight, snow etc. We didn't buy the cradle for it so I cannot review it, but if it is as easy to use as the camera we might consider buying that as well. We find the screen size for reviewing pictures ... ...on zooming in to a particular part of the picture as well.
I like the help pop-ups on each of the different functions and the way you can have different sounds on start up and when you take photos, these include sci-fi and classical.
I have bought a 1gb memory card for it and it can take about 450+ pics on the 5.1mega pix setting, obviously this would be a lot less for the higher resolution and on a smaller card, I managed to shop around and got ...
