Advantages: Compact size; quick response Disadvantages: only 2.8x optical zoom
This ultra-compact five megapixel camera felt deliciously small after my chunky old Nikon 775. Setup was straightforward (after a week, I still haven't looked at the manual) and the playback and menu buttons were well labelled. Images are stored on an SD card (16MB included) and you can view them by plugging the camera into a USB port (cable supplied).
The X50 turns on via a slider at the front, which means it's difficult to switch it on accidentally. ... ...as sharp as some, but will be fine for the average user.
Like most cameras, the Dimage X50 has automatic flash and red-eye reduction. It also has three shooting modes and you can record voice notes with your images.
The zoom is internal, which means you have to look at the screen to know whether you've zoomed in or out - not a problem in my book.
Shutter lag - the time the camera takes to be ready again after taking a picture - is virtually non-existent. ...

A great camera Review ofKonica Minolta DiMAGE X50by
cazbo71
Advantages: Easy to use - large screen Disadvantages: You need to buy a bigger memory card
The Konica Minolta X50 is very small and slim and yet has a 2 inch screen. It has 5 megapixals. It is very easy to use - you just point and click, and the pictures are superb quality even on a lower setting. You can also take a small amount of video which is great for catching those moments with the kids. The battery life is excellent - I carry this camera around with me all the time and I recharge the battery once a week - you just clip it on the ... ...need to purchase a bigger memory card and it does not come with a case but apart from that this camera is great. I would definitely recommend this camera for people who are scared to go digital as it is very simple to use. It also comes with PictBridge. I print my photos out on the Epson PictureMate which I just slide my memory card into and get instant photos. I got this camera with a special offer from Costco - about £170. ...

Advantages: Easy to use and quick to learn the basics Disadvantages: Video needs a hefty SD card
For all the family, and technophobes, this camera is small (palm of your hand), light, easy to use and the functions are not too difficult to get to grips with.
Within a 15 minute period, I was taking colour, sepia and black and white photos. The video function (including excellent sound quality!) is as easy as taking a photo. The more complex functions to take specific photo types, such as sport, landscape, night-vision and the like, took me a ... ...right places (for a right hander) to use with ease and there is no fiddling to make sure your fingers are in the right spot. The only issue I would have with external features is that the mic' for the video is in the top right of the case, right where people with larger hands than mine would curl their fingers round.
At 1600x1200, I could get 496 fine (5mp) pics or 23m 40s (15fps) on a 512 mb card. No internal memory though. My wife and I both liked ...

Advantages: Fast point and shoot (low shutter lag) Disadvantages: only 2.8x optical zoom
The KonicaMinolta Dimage X50 felt deliciously small after my chunky old Nikon 775. Not much bigger than a pack of cards, and not much heavier, this ultra-compact five megapixel camera is already a winner in my book.
Setup was easy. I didn't need the manual to get time, date and other settings fixed and to view and delete my first few test shots. Playback and menu controls are to the right of the viewfinder on the back and it's obvious what most ... ...card reader, you'll never need to use the included USB cable to view your photos on your PC.
The X50 turns on via a slider at the front, which means it's difficult to switch it on accidentally. A cute (or annoying) little tune plays and it's ready to rock. The two-inch display screen is perhaps not as sharp as on some cameras, but its size makes it easy to see your picture. Novices will appreciate the little brackets on screen that frame the centre ...

Manufacturer's product description
The Konica Minolta DiMAGE X50 is handy enough to take anywhere and stylish enough to show everyone. Add the fastest-in-class startup time, 2.8X non-protruding optical zoom, 5-megapixel CCD, and large 2-inch LCD, and you've got a high quality digital camera in a sleek, compact package. The 5-megapixel DiMAGE X50 digital camera takes the DiMAGE X series' concept of "thin, fast and stylish" and adds even more speed. With its non-protruding zooms lens, the DiMAGE X50 fits neatly in a breast pocket and is ready when you are-thanks to the approx. 0.5-second startup time - to take those spur-of-the-moment shots and ensure that you never miss a photo opportunity. Automatic Digital Subject Program Selection automatically selects the optimum shooting mode for the subject at hand, allowing you to take beautiful photos that match the needs of the particular scene. In short, the DiMAGE X50 makes it fast and easy for anyone to take beautiful, high-quality pictures anytime. The DiMAGE X50's 5-megapixel CCD and proprietary CxProcess II image processing technology combine to give superb quality images - pictures that reproduce the natural colors as faithfully as you see them with your own eyes. The zoom range gives everything from wide-angle shots to close-ups that are clearly focused as near as 10 cm from the subject, without the need to switch to macro mode. If you need to get even closer, the Super Macro mode based on Konica Minolta's newly developed optics system gives amazing close-ups as near as 6 cm. The DiMAGE X50 has a large 2-inch LCD screen whose easy-to-view menus equal greater ease of operation. And the slide cover protects the lens, so there's no need to worry about putting the camera inside a pocket or purse.
