Whilst the camera is reasonably easy to hold (it is clear that attention ... ...the camera) it has been designed in such a way that it is not easy for left-handed people to use. The menu, however, is easy to access and fairly easy to use.
The flip up flash unit is a good idea and works reasonably well. And the 12x optical zoom is good.
Apart from the problem with the useless screen, there is also a problem with the anti-shake mechanism. It simply doesn't work. Pictures are often blurred and out ... more

In theory this should have been better. It was somewhat lighter, and had higher resolution with 5 mega pixels.
That was the theory, but the truth is somewhat different. The view screen is useless when used outdoors, as it cannot be tilted (as that on the Canon can) so is not useable whilst in direct sunlight.
Whilst the camera is reasonably easy to hold (it is clear that attention to detail has been given to the ergodynamic design of the camera) it has been designed in such a way that it is not easy for left-handed people to use. The menu, however, is easy to access and fairly easy to use.

This was a problem that never occurred with the Canon. Of course, this problem is exacerbated by the utterly useless screen, as you cannot immediately check on the quality of the picture once you have taken it.
This reivew is shorter than usual, because I do not feel I can recommend this camera and had little positive ot say about it, sadly.
Advantages: Easy to use, good quality, loads of features Disadvantages: Non-removable lens
...but the basic functions are all straightforward.
One thing to look out for is that Konica have been bought by Sony, although Sony have promised to continue support for Konica products.
Although the expert or professional photographer may require more the Dimage Z5 is great for the novice or intermediate. ...

I will start with the only downfall I have found on this camera, it's battery cover is a little flimsy and is already broken on mine. Apart from that, I recommend this camera on all counts. The picture quality is amazing, its usability is simple and it has the look of a professional piece of equipment. ...Build Quality Konica Minolta is enjoying much success with its Dimage Z series. The range is designed to give users an affordable super zoom in one compact body design. The Z5 is the latest incarnation and sticks to the same space age look that makes these camera so eye catching. There’s hardly a straight line to be seen on the z5s curvaceous plastic body, while the elongated hand grip fitted with all the important controls, provides excellent handling.

I was so happy with the quality of the pictures I took with this camera, that getting a new one was out of my mind; I've always been told that big lenses = great quality pictures, which was confirmed by my Minolta? Although, big lenses = big camera, which is a pain in itself? I am an avid fan of concerts, and "sneak" a camera in is always a tough job with the Minolta.
Then, a few months back, as I was walking in an airport duty-free, I saw a digital camera, big lens, but compact. As tiny as some digital cameras out there? the Panasonic Lumix TZ1. Price tag there: about £400. That calmed me down straight away ...
