Advantages: Vivid colours, reliable, prints beautifully Disadvantages: Photo printing quality is only 7/10 in my rating
We bought our Konika Minolta Magicolor 2350 laser printer four years ago. We use it at home but I print quite frequently. We decided to buy this printer because it is specially designed for optimal performance in Windows, Macintosh, UNIX, and other environments as well. This was important for us, as I use Windows but my husband is an IT professional and uses several other operation systems on his computers and sometimes also he wants to print something. He worked for a company where there were a lot of printers of this type and he had really good opinion about them. This opinion hasn?t changed since then.
Price of the printer and cartridges
When we bought it, it was on offer, so it was ?only? £650. It was a serious discount because its full price is £900.
There are four cartridges in it plus the drum cartridge, we had to change ...
Advantages: Quality prints, quiet Disadvantages: A little expensive to run
The Magicolor 2550 is positioned as one of KonicaMinolta's entry level colour laser printers, well almost entry level, as it offers some very nice features without taking the price of the device too high.
The specification on offer from this full colour model is a cracking 20ppm (pages per minute) in monochrome and 5ppm in full colour. The native resolution is 600dpi with a x4 dithering method which beefs this up to an effective 2,400dpi. The model on review here is the standard model, which has 128MB of memory, is network ready and offers Postscript 3 printer language in addition to PCL6 and PDF support.
The 2550DN which is the next model up adds a built-in duplexer and has 256MB of memory, it also adds Pictbridge support for direct connection of a compatible digital camera. Both models are capable of handling a monthly duty cycle ...
Advantages: Great print quality Disadvantages: Slow, expensive
As with most ICT departments in schools we have the need for occasioanl colour laser printing and to this end we purchased a Magicolor 2450. The initial purchase price was reasonable (£450 ish) and the feature list impressed us.
The Product
The printer itself has a fairly small footprint it is about 19 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 18 inches high. The unit is predominatly a greyish cream colour with a dark blue top section. It looks quite good on a desk.
The Features
Well it is a colour laser printer, print quality is excellent. The paper tray is large holding approx 100 sheets which eliminates the constant refilling that so many inkjets suffer from. The printer has a network interface so that it can be easily shared as well as the standard parallel and USB conneections.
