Give your workgroup the color laser edge with the Magicolor 2 DeskLaser Duplex from QMS. With installed Ethernet NIC, built-in duplexer and full-color printing, this printer gets the work done fast with great color and monochrome results. This rugged business laser printer keeps up the pace with a 4 ppm print speed for color, 16 ppm for monochrome at 600 dpi. It is powered by an Intel I960SA RISC processor and 32 MB RAM (upgradeable to 64 MB), and is built to last with a 20,000 print/month duty cycle. The built-in duplexer automatically prints on both sides of the page for print cost and time savings. The automatic jam recovery reprints lost pages so print jobs stay intact after paper jams are cleared. Two 250-sheet paper trays hold up to letter size paper, and an optional 250-sheet universal tray holds up to legal size paper. The DeskLaser Duplex prints on a variety of media including envelopes, transparencies, labels, heavy paper stock and plain paper. The Magicolor 2 DeskLaser Duplex provides comprehensive color matching with an ICC-compliant printer profile that is compatible with Windows ICM and Kodak Digital Science host-based color management systems. It uses four separate color toner cartridges that slide in and out for quick toner refills. The black toner yields up to 10,000 pages at 5% coverage, and the cyan, magenta and yellow cartridges yield up to 6,000 at the same coverage. This printer comes with an IEEE 1284 bi-directional parallel interface and a built-in Ethernet 10Base-T interface card that supports TCP/IP. The DeskLaser Duplex can be shared through the Ethernet interface or the bi-directional parallel port using the Windows 95/98/NT sharing and background printing functions. It is compatible with PCs running Windows 95/98 or Windows NT 4.0, and includes enhanced printer drivers.
Advantages: Cost.....erm did I mention the cost? Disadvantages: Jam's easily, can be trouble networked
...I bought one of these for a customer of mine (I'm an IT support manager) and have been called out to it as regular as clock work, at least once a week.
It runs on all of the Windows Platforms, including Windows 95, all the way up to Windows XP Pro and Home. Linking to the printer can be done by either 2 ways, networking requires an RJ45 connection on an ethernet network, or is you want a local connection then you can just stick the printer with a parallel cable.
The initial cost of the printer is very attractive and it certainly looks the part compared the the HP Laser printers, but don't be fooled by it's cover, under it's lion like cover it's a mear pussy cat, one with only 3 legs, a patch over one eye and balance that would make a drunk proud!
The consumables on the printer can also be costly, but there again depending on how much...

Advantages: Colour Print Speed, Print Quality, Network Ready, Fewer Consumables Disadvantages: Lack of Seperate Paper Feed
...This is KonicaMinolta's first "in house" manufactured Printer, and the effort required to make a good first impression certainly shows. It is sturdy looking without being too utilitarian.
Photo quality is good, there is room for improvement, but this would only be required/desired if you were perhaps involved in the graphics industry. At 2400dpi though, it certainly gives detailed enough photo's. I have seen Estate Agent Particulars printed with this machine and they look very good.
When you do come to print in Colour, the actual performance comes close to the 20 Colour PPM that KonicaMinolta quote in their Specifications.
The printer has stamina, with a duty cycle of 60K pages per month. This is quite enough for most small to medium sized offices.
In my experience mostly Estate Agents and Schools purchase this Printer. The quick...

Advantages: Value for money, excellent print quality, compact size Disadvantages: Can only be used with Windows - no Mac or Linux drivers
...in I.T., I'm used to installing colour lasers the size (and weight!) of small fridges, so the dimensions of the Magicolor were a very pleasant surprise!
Ease of use is also a big plus - the operator panel is easy to see and interpret, and getting to the cartridges is a doddle. Looking into the prices of replacement cartridges for similiar small, personal colour laser printers, I found that replacement cartridges for this printer were the cheapest, which was also one of the things that sold me on it.
The only drawback to this printer is that it doesn't seem to be possible to use it with any operating system other than Windows - my main computer is a Mac though I also have a Windows PC and a Linux PC, and Konica-Minolta don't provide a driver for any operating system other than Windows (from 98 to XP). In my own case, I can simply...

Ok, so laser printers are more expensive than inkjets. BUT; when you look at the saving that can be made on consumables it starts to be a bit of a no brainer as to which you buy!

Photo quality is good, there is room for improvement, but this more
I bought one of these recently for home use and have been very pleased with it. The value for money is brilliant - the excellent quality of the colour prints and the speed at which they are delivered, are quite a surprise in this price range. Colours... more
