Advantages: Fast, excellent print quality Disadvantages: Too many limitations
...The 5550 has excellent print quality and its quick. It should be, because it is sold as a high duty-cycle commercial machine suitable for networking etc. But it cannot handle glossy or thick stock in the lower paper trays, plus they have no availability for custom sizes in them either. So, you can have up to 3, 500 sheet paper trays, but you can only load them with plain A4 stock. The duplexer suffers the in the same way. The practical result of this is numerous trips to load the, rather flimsy, multi-media tray that holds only a maximum of 100 sheets. Then, if you want your beautiful photo-quality glossy brochure printed on both sides, you have to return to the printer, turn the paper over and start again. All in all a potentially great machine that suffers from poor design and lack of flexibility. Sadder still, this is a problem...

Advantages: Value for money, excellent print quality, compact size Disadvantages: Can only be used with Windows - no Mac or Linux drivers
...in I.T., I'm used to installing colour lasers the size (and weight!) of small fridges, so the dimensions of the Magicolor were a very pleasant surprise!
Ease of use is also a big plus - the operator panel is easy to see and interpret, and getting to the cartridges is a doddle. Looking into the prices of replacement cartridges for similiar small, personal colour laser printers, I found that replacement cartridges for this printer were the cheapest, which was also one of the things that sold me on it.
The only drawback to this printer is that it doesn't seem to be possible to use it with any operating system other than Windows - my main computer is a Mac though I also have a Windows PC and a Linux PC, and Konica-Minolta don't provide a driver for any operating system other than Windows (from 98 to XP). In my own case, I can simply...

Advantages: Colour Print Speed, Print Quality, Network Ready, Fewer Consumables Disadvantages: Lack of Seperate Paper Feed
...This is KonicaMinolta's first "in house" manufactured Printer, and the effort required to make a good first impression certainly shows. It is sturdy looking without being too utilitarian.
Photo quality is good, there is room for improvement, but this would only be required/desired if you were perhaps involved in the graphics industry. At 2400dpi though, it certainly gives detailed enough photo's. I have seen Estate Agent Particulars printed with this machine and they look very good.
When you do come to print in Colour, the actual performance comes close to the 20 Colour PPM that KonicaMinolta quote in their Specifications.
The printer has stamina, with a duty cycle of 60K pages per month. This is quite enough for most small to medium sized offices.
In my experience mostly Estate Agents and Schools purchase this Printer. The quick...

Ok, so laser printers are more expensive than inkjets. BUT; when you look at the saving that can be made on consumables it starts to be a bit of a no brainer as to which you buy!

I bought one of these recently for home use and have been very pleased with it. The value for money is brilliant - the excellent quality of the colour prints and the speed at which they are delivered, are quite a surprise in this price range. Colours... more
