Korg M3-61

The Korg M3 heralds the third generation of Korg Workstations. The Korg M3 features a number of innovations distilled from the flagship OASYS including the new EDS (Enhanced... more...Definition Synthesis) sound generator derived from the HD-1 engine design, the advanced second-generation KARMA functionality, and the multi-purpose control surface. Adding innovations such as the new concept of virtualized hardware that allows an even closer integration with DAW systems, Drum Tracks which provide a instant groove to play along with, and the new \Korg Komponent System\" concept that facilitates more flexible system construction, the M3 music workstation/sampler opens a new and exciting page in music making - its the workstation that rightfully deserves to wear the M that started it all. The M3 features a newly developed EDS sound generating system based on a new chip design that was developed in parallel with the HD-1 engine from the flagship OASYS. It takes full advantage of the M3s 256 Mbytes of PCM source material which is a veritable best of from the OASYS. The effect section provides up to five Insert effects, two Master effects, and one Total effect. The 170 effect types include dynamic processing effects such as compressor and limiter, amp modeling and speaker simulation effects using Korgs proprietary REMS modeling technology, and evocative effects like the Grain Shifter and Talking Modulator. In the end its always about the sounds, and the M3 doesnt disappoint. Stunningly realistic imitative sounds, fat synth sounds, imaginative textures, evocative sound effects its all here. The M3 comes loaded with 512 Programs, and room for a total of 1,664 user sounds (13 Banks plus GM). All sound locations are fully editable (except GM banks), so you are always free to tweak a sound if needed. The second generation KARMA functionality can help you play everything from natural instrument gestures like intricate finger-picking, strumming and harp glissand"

Korg Blimey

Advantages: Full-length, nice key action
Disadvantages: Not a real piano!

I use this stage piano in my rock band, barkerhound(.com). It is full length (88 notes) with what I would call semi-weighted keys. I'm actually a pianist, so my knowledge of keyboards/synths is more limited. However, as a pianist going to a keyboard I love the action and feel of these keys, there's really something to play against and the responsiveness is nice - not too light. It has 6 different sound options - Piano, Electric Piano, Harpsichord, Vibraphone, Organ and Strings plus various other functions which to be honest, I don't really go near - I pair this Korg up with a Nord rack (better piano/organ sounds). On saying that, I will be using this Korg as part of a piano/vocal duo and know that it is light enough to be wheeled about in it's flight case (I'm a girl, the boys I know carry it with even more ease). If you ...

Bad KARMA? Korg Synth

Advantages: incredible sounds
Disadvantages: you need a Phd to work it!

KARMA -- Now the dictionary term for Karma is "seen as bringing upon oneself inevitable results, good or bad" and perhaps this is the most apt explanation of the KORG Karma as it has good and bad sides to it. On the good side, this machine sounds bloody fantastic. All of the individual programme sounds are excellent (e.g Piano is faultless, vibraphone and music box are superb and the strings are excellent) but the real fun starts in the combination files which picks a number of individual sounds and fuses them together, adds a bit of Karma magic and hey presto it sounds incredible!!!!!!!!!! Remember the KARMA is run off of the same engine that powers the TRITON so you know you're getting top class sounds. You then have a plethora of realtime controls (12 in total) all of which can be programmed so you can add effects, effect ...

Korg Electribe Emx 1

Advantages: easy to use
Disadvantages: read review for details

This is for the music makers and beat producers. If you want to try and pull apart any of the demo patterns to see how patterns are created with the Korg Electribe EMX-1, 196 phenomenal working examples are already on board. But the process basically boils down to users having as many as nine drum parts, five synth parts and two accent parts (one for drums and one for synths) available to combine into a pattern. You can record a pattern either in real time or through step recording. For real-time recording, simply press the Pattern key in the main section, select a synth part by pressing one of the five rubber Synth Part keys, hit the Record button (which also causes the Play/Pause button to light) and press Play. From there, any key entries made with the 16 step-key pads at the bottom of the EMX-1 will be recorded into your pattern ...
