Kraft Philadelphia,(Philly), a soft-cream cheese, is marketed all over the world and the manufacturers claim that annual sales exceed US$1 billion. Across Europe more than 60,000 tonnes of this cheese is sold and the three big markets arereputedly Britain, Germany and Italy.
Enough about the superlatives! Kraft has been a well-known name in the UK for years and years and its Philadelphia Cheese has been strongly advertised since the early 1960’s. The initial promotional campaigns featured the very popular Dora Bryan and then in the late 80’s and through the 90’s Kraft featured the '''"Two Secretaries..." TV advertising campaign.
This popular cheese was traditionally sold in a silver foil pack, however, today only the 225g pack is still packed in foil, the remainder of the range comes in a tub with foil lid.
Kraft “Philly”, as it is often called, is widely available: you will find most neighbourhood grocery shops stock it as well as the major supermarkets. This high fat, soft-cheese, is very spreadable, has a good texture and is surprisingly versatile.
You can spread it on cream crackers, wafer biscuits, digestive biscuits, on hot buttered toast and in sandwiches. It goes quite well with the likes of tomatoes, smoked salmon and rare beef in wholemeal bread sandwiches, as a filling for croissants and, arguably, best of all with bagels. The Kraft website has recipes for Beef and Horseradish, Breakfast, Chargrilled Vegetable, Chicken Tikka, Prawn Chili, Smoked Salmon, Smoked Mackerel and Tangy Banana bagels. Here’s Kraft’s recipe for an exotic sounding dish.
Kiwi and Raspberry Bagels
Preparation time : 5 minutes
Ingredients :
2 bagels Philadelphia cheese 1 kiwi fruit sliced A handful of raspberries
Split the bagels in half horizontally. Toast until lightly browned and spread the bottom half of the bagel generously with the Philadelphia cheese. Add the kiwi and raspberries and top with the other half of the bagel.
I have occasionally used this cheese as a topping for jacket potatoes but frankly think real farmhouse mature cheddar makes for a far superior topping.
This soft cheese, of course, can be used as an ingredient in a wide range of desserts such as Yoghurt, Mousses, Cheesecakes, and such yummy offerings as Strawberry Choux Ring and Baked Lemon Sultana Cheesecake. Among savoury dishes in which “Philly” cheese can be utilized are Pesto Chicken, Salmon with Creamy Garlic and Herb Sauce, Creamy Leek Filo Parcels, Grilled Chicken with Philadelphia Cheese and Mustard Sauce and Grilled Cod. I must confess I haven’t actually tried these out; I guess I am not a very talented or adventurous chef!
Overall, I think it is a pleasant enough cheese product without being exceptional. It is easy to spread, is versatile, is not very expensive and is easily found. On the other hand, there are much tastier cheese products around.
In my view, a slice of farmhouse mature Cheddar, some Feta cheese, a slab of Blue Stilton, some Camembert or Brie, would get a higher vote from me. Arguably perhaps it should be compared with cheese spreads and if this comparison is made, it would rank higher up the scale. So, it gets a qualified recommendation from this reviewer: it is pleasant enough but not sensational.
Advantages: Cheesey goodness Disadvantages: Has a habit of hiding when I am not looking
...oval with the word “ Kraft “ at the top of the oval. The tub comes with a clear removable plastic lid under which is peel-able foil cover which also has Philadelphia written on it. On one side of the tub it has a large “ V “ and states that this product is suitable for vegetarians, so good news for all you non-carnivores out there.
The ingredients for Philadelphia are ( Yup!! You guessed it ) cheese and a couple of E-Number stabilisers. I cannot ... ...a lump of Brie that has exploded in your fridge I think you will have the answer to this question. Unless of course the stabilisers are there to stop the cheese from quite literally slipping of it’s cracker and sitting in the corner dribbling and talking about how penguins are planning on world domination.
The cheese itself is thick and I mean thick as in thick not as in unintelligent. For a cream cheese it is actually quite possible after it has ...

Advantages: good even texture. Disadvantages: a little bland.
I have learned that you can live without Philadelphia soft cheese. I learned this depressing fact purely as a result of being pregnant. Pregnant women are not supposed to have soft cheese as its one of those things that might carry unhelpful bacteria.
Back before the advent of the bump, I was quiet enthusiastic about this cheesy product. I shall indulge in a little nostalgia.
Normally I have a bit of an aversion to pre-processed products, but I've ... ...I shall probably never own. So, shop bought it has to be. I've tried own brands, but they tend to have a freaky watery layer, to taste of nothing at all and to generally not please me. So here I am with a brand. Philly has a far better texture than any other similar soft cheese I have encountered - pull the foil back from the plastic pot, and you have a white, firm looking soft cheese. It spreads easily, does not tend to form lumps, and has no nasty ...

Advantages: It says it's cheese and it is cheese, so 100% CUSTOMER SATISFACTION Disadvantages: It's not very tasty cheese IN MY SUBJECTIVE OPINION
Kraft Philadelphia is a high fat cream cheese that has been around forever. If you've never tried it, you'll know of it from the old extremely annoying adverts with those two dippy girls, and the current extremely annoying crop of ads with Caroline Quentin dressed up as an angel and making lascicious faces as the enjoys the supposedly semi-orgasmic experience that is eating Philadelphia.
But back to the 'cheese':
Philadelphia is sold just about ... ...I will, however, try:
Kraft Philadephia claims to be a cheese. Extensive testing by myself (though without the aid of laboratory analysis) has proved it to be so.
So there.
As far as I am aware it has no medicinal properties to make this op more interesting.
I don't think it helped us win the war or has any other historical significance that would make this op more interesting.
I've never had a bad experience with it that would make this op ...

Okay, a couple of weeks have elapsed since my last paid op while I've been doing my best to keep Ciao's Films section on top of the world, so the time is right for me to earn a few more pennies for a change and so dave27 ventures once more into the world of food...
Actually, Philly is one of my favourite treats, even if I'm not quite as keen as that pair of girls who wet their knicks at the cool fresh taste of Philadelphia spread in the TV ads.
... ...frankly tastes of nothing much at all, though it's extremely tasty when it's icy cold on crackers or biscuits - my favourite is a thick spread of Philly on a digestive biscuit.
It comes in a plastic pack with silver foil on the top and a plastic lid which soon gets dispensed with when you've got kids sniffing round - the dave27-ettes love Philly so it's gone pretty much as soon as it's opened.
There is a lite, low calorie version, but that gets ...

Every Sunday evening after church, my aunts, uncles, cousins , brother, mom and dad would go over to my grandma’s house for a Sunday evening snack. Which would contain celery sticks, all kinds of crackers, different kinds of breads, and the spread of course was Philadelphia cream cheese.
When my husband and I started a family, every Sunday evening we would go over to my mother’s house for the Philadelphia cream cheese tradition. Reviews which might be of interest for "Kraft Philadelphia Cheese"
KraftPhiladelphia Light Garlic and Herbs is a medium fat soft cheese made in Germany. I like to taste cheese of different nations because cheese can taste very different.
Price and Package
-------------------------
This cheese comes in a white oval plastic tub which contains 300 g of soft cheese. The lid is silver coloured plastic. The tub can be opened and re-closed easily and keeps the cheese fresh. Naturally it has to be refrigerated. Its price is 1.82 pounds in Sainsbury?s which is about average I think. Now (24 November 2009) it is on offer buy 1 and add 1 free.
Taste and texture
----------------------
It is a white thick cheese that can be spread easily. There are small pieces of green herbs in it. The garlic cannot be observed as it has very mild taste but the herbs give the cheese a very nice taste. There is a secret ...
Advantages: Good packaging, fantastic taste, Good use of ingredients Disadvantages: None at all in my opinion.
If you have read any of my previous reviews then you will have seen that I sometimes struggle with what to have for my lunch everyday. I tend to get bored quite quickly with food and whilst I have fads of items where I cannot get enough of them, not long after I am soon fed up. I have recently been on a bit of a soup fad but know that before long I will tire of it. Whilst going to heat my soup up in the works kitchen I saw a colleague toasting herself a bagel and then spreading something on it.... This something was Philadelphia Light Garlic and Herb.
So a new idea for my lunch and off I went to my local Supermarket, Tesco to pick myself a tub up. I have never had Kraft's Philadelphia before but have often treated myself to some soft cheeses, especially at Christmas time. A couple of reasons drew me to the product, the fact that it ...
Advantages: Mild garlic taste but lovely creamy flavours and thick texture Disadvantages: Price
Whenever I hear 'Philadelphia' I always thick of the TV advertising of the 2 angels in heaven eating this soft cheese with crackers. I suppose that's the marking of good advertising. I have never actually tried the original Philadelphia but it is basically a creamy soft cheese manufactured by Kraft (a massive manufacturer of a whole array of food brands).
I like flavoursome cheese and seeing as I love soft cheese with flavouring like garlic, chives, herbs etc...this looked really appealing - Kraft Philadelphian Light Garlic and Herbs.' By 'Light' they actually mean, less fat and calories than the original. It's not 'low fat' and the product even details it to be - 'a medium fat soft cheese with garlic and herbs.' There is still 47kcal, 3.5g of fat and 2.3g of saturated fat per 30g serving. I don't know how much a 30g serving rquates ...
