Fantasy reunion Review ofKrondor: The Assassins - Raymond E. Feistby
kimbowa
Advantages: Easy to read, engaging, familiar Disadvantages: A little formulaic
I cut my Fantasy teeth, so to speak, on the likes of Tolkein, Mervyn Peake, Jonathan Swift at about 10 years of age. I've had a like, sometimes passion, for the Fantasy genre ever since.
I've read several other of Feist's books - the early stuff like Silverthorn, Magician, A Darkness at Sethanon, Faerie Tale and the books he wrote with Janny Wurts - and generally found them to be very engaging with a ring of originality about them. Faerie Tale was ... ...way towards Horror, but was an immensely readable story.
Krondor - the Assassins continues the saga of the world that he created in those earlier texts and we encounter other characters who were present during the Riftwar. There is enough explanation throughout to ensure that newcomers to the series will not be excluded by dint of "secret knowledge" - and enough omissions that anyone who likes it is likely to seek out the other books that tell the ...

good book Review ofKrondor: The Assassins - Raymond E. Feistby
david1978
Advantages: very good read Disadvantages: none
...rotten in the state of Krondor: the Mockers, the gang of goons and bullyboys that were James's colleagues back when he was known as Jimmy the Hand, have been decimated in vicious fighting on the rooftops and in the sewers. That, and a seemingly random slew of murders, tips off the Crown that some outside concern is attempting an underworld power-grab right under the Prince's nose. Raymond E. Feist's second Riftwar book, Krondor the Assassins, continues ... ...Squire James back in the Midkemian capital, returning triumphantly from their campaign against the Tsurani magician Makala and moredhel headman Delekhan. But Arutha quickly sends James back into the city's seedy underbelly to investigate, and in the process he forms a sort of Krondorian secret service. Could the assassins of the Nighthawks be responsible, or perhaps some Keshian interest? James, naturally, begins to suss the situation out, which ...

Not bad Review ofKrondor: The Assassins - Raymond E. Feistby
jambo6
Advantages: Good enough Disadvantages: Lacks originality and sparkle
I picked up this a couple of weeks ago, having not read any fantasy for a while. I read Magician, Silverthorn & Darkness at Sethanon years ago, as soon as they were published, and was expecting more of the same. It was a good enough read, but I wouldn’t go overboard about it as I felt it lacked depth. The characters were crafted well enough to make you interested in them, and the story was ok, but lacked sparkle. This is above average, worth reading ...

Advantages: Great setting, demons, Nighthawks and shape shifters, what more could you ask? Disadvantages: Lacks pace in places
Introduction
Krondor: The Assassins is the second book in the Riftwar Legacy series of 3 (Krondor the Betrayal and then Tear of the Gods being the others) and is the only one not based on a previous PC game. And it shows.
Opinion
What a fantastic book. This book is as good as Betrayal was bad (very bad). This is Feist back to his best. That this book was written from scratch instead of being chopped from the plot of the PC game is patently obvious ... ...always liked and this book gets right into its heart, the Thieves Highway. James and William develop wonderfully in this book which is among the best from Feist. Finally some dialogue that works and finally a plot you havent seen coming 3 chapters away.
Reading this over, it sounds a little zealous, perhaps as a result of the diabolical Betrayal preceding it, but this is a great Feist book, and I would encourage anyone to buy it. I might suggest ...
