I was in Selfridges looking at coffee machines when a Nespresso rep beamed at me and asked if I’d like to try a Cappuccino … doh! I’d heard of Nespresso coffee but didn’t know much about it and had never seen one of the machines being operated so I was fascinated to be able to observe the whole process. A few simple questions enabled the rep to select ... ...to offer and within a few minutes she handed me a delicious cup of coffee. Despite the awesome £299.00 price tag (about twice what I was intending to pay for a machine) I bought this one and for 3 reasons: 1) I liked the taste of the coffee, 2) there are no messy coffee grounds to dispose of and 3) it was so easy to operate. The Nespresso system is revolutionary in coffee. If you are not familiar with it, it is one whereby fresh very high quality capsules of coffee are made into espresso using a Nespresso machine. The coffee is of the best standard and comes in a huge variety of blends. Nespresso is a huge step us from other coffee systems such as Tassimo by Kenco. Owning one is more of an experience than a simple appliance; coffee is delivered in tubes of 10 or so and ... ...The end result is no different from the traditional espresso machine in which ground coffee is used. Indeed inside the capsules are ground coffee. The espresso made is perfect, and sugar sprinkled on the top falls through the crema after 10 seconds. Advantages: Ease of use, perfect coffee, great for frothing milk. Disadvantages: Hard to use a mug for coffee
...were several machines BUT the Krups 897 had the "normal" milk frother and at half price ($350) it won me over.
Perfect coffee time after time. The Krups is a breeze to use - very quick and versatile. 30 seconds to clean at the end of the day.
The only complaint I have with the Krups is that the space between the spill tray and the coffee extraction is a little low and I keep having to take the drip tray out to get coffee into the mug !
