Two of the biggest names in the Coffee business have joined forces again to create the Dolce Gusto coffee maker.
Krups are already well known for making reliable coffee making machines, and by joining with Nescafe who, in my opinion, make the nicest tasting coffees - this machine got me interested straight away.
Having opened the box - my first impression of the machine was that it was very simple in design but stylish at the same time. I went for the Black colour option, however there is also a Red and an Ivory option as well. All colour options have silver on them as well.
The machine I purchased came with a FREE welcome pack which had a Latte Glass, Cappuccino cup with saucers and a variety of the coffee capsules, all in one box.
Its a high pressure machine (14 bars pressure) with removable drip tray and a washable filter.The coffee maker itself is very simple to use - ideal for beginners who have never used an Espresso machine before.
It has a three height adjustable drip tray so you are guaranteed to get the coffee into the cup every time. I've found that it's also very simple to clean afterwards. The capsule holder is simply rinsed under the tap but is also dishwasher safe.
To preserve your Dolce Gusto - there is also a descaling function, which allows you to clean the insides of your machine thoroughly. It takes approximately 15 minutes to compete this. The enclosed instruction leaflet provides a guide to the frequency that this needs to be done depening upon your water type. However it should be noted that you will need to purchase descaling sachets directly from their website (I don't know about the cost at the moment)
Great tasting coffee in no time at all. If the machine is switched on then it takes about 20 seconds for the drink to be made.
However if, like me, you fill and switch on and then want a drink made, then it takes about 40 seconds, which is still fast for a no-messing tasty cup of coffee.
The only part where you are required to do anything is with the Cappuccino and Latte where you have to insert a milk capsule before the coffee capsule. This is to ensure that you get the great frothy milk you get from restaurants and coffee bars.
At the moment, there are only 4 varieties of coffee available. However more varieties will become available next year including a hot chocolate as well as some cold drink options.
The only issue that I can see with this machine is the availability of the capsules, which is why I listed that as a disadvantage. I've not yet needed to purchase more capsules since I've only had the machine since Christmas, however I've looked on Tesco's online shopping site and they have them listed on there.
They have the Cappuccino, Espresso, Latte and Lungo packs for sale at a pretty reasonable £2.99 for 16 Capsules. It should be noted however, that the Cappuccino and Latte are 8 coffee capsules and 8 milk capsules.
Not bad value when you're paying around 19p for a cup of Espresso & Lungo and around 37p for a Cappuccino & Latte.
All in all I love this machine - but I'll update this review as I use the machine over the next few weeks.
