There is a range of drinks available for use with this machine, these come in the form of sealed capsules that you place in a holder. The machine pierces these and the drink is dispensed ... ...ie the machine itself does not get dirty. No washing up - fantastic!
Water is held in the integral reservoir and heated up as it is dispensed - this makes it extremely efficient as you only heat the water you use - it also means that there is no waiting around like for a kettle to boil.
The capsules come in boxes of 16. If you are buying the expresso, cafe lungo (long expresso) or classic coffee that means you get 16 drinks ... more

The capsules come in boxes of 16. If you are buying the expresso, cafe lungo (long expresso) or classic coffee that means you get 16 drinks at approx. 20p per cup. The Chocolate, latte & cappuccino drinks require a 'milk' capsule and a coffee capsule, resulting in 8 drinks per box at a cost of approx 40p per cup. These are , apparently readily available from most supermarkets - I get mine from Sainsburys.
The classico makes a really good cup of coffee -' instant' with the taste of a filter coffee. The latte is a lovely creamy coffee & I have one of these a day, or the lovely rich chocolate drink as a treat. There is a cold dispense option too, so you can make 'iced' coffee too, but I haven't tried that yet.
The cost is further reduced by freebies you can get via the Dolce Gusto website. It is well worth registering as they operate a points scheme, collection of which can be redeemed against capsules or other products ( cups/glasses etc) I got 200 points for registering, plus a voucher for a free box of capsules. I have received further points for completing a small survey & received another voucher for introducing 3 friends. Each box of capsules contains a code worth 11 points and I have today redeemed 480 points allowing me to order 3 boxes of capsules for the price of the postage.
Advantages: Easy to clean and maintain. Great tasting coffee. Bit of variety in the drinks. Disadvantages: Pods are expensive. You have to measure the water out manually.
Amazing machine!! I love it so much!!!! I have the red one, and its amazing! So so easy to use, the only thing I would say about it is that you determine how mcuh water to use, now this is good in some ways, but, if your new to the machiine and aren't sure how much to use, it can be confusing!! But you get used to it, and the booklet you get with it describes how to make each drink! You get a selection of two of each of the drinks to test and see ... ...can only be used once and are almost £4 for either 16 or 8 drinks (depending on what drink you get!!) I think the price is brilliant for what it is, its very good looking and modern and comes in a range of colours which is great as it means anyone can fit one into their kitchen! It's small and compact yet holds plenty of water!!! Makes a range of drinks, not just plain coffee which is great. ...

The best thing I have bought this year, makes great coffee and chocolate drinks alot quicker and more efficient than a kettle, I use mine every day.
The drinks can be a little expensive 40p for Lattes, cappuccino and chocolate, 20p for Classico coffee, lungo coffee and esspresso's.
But it is a price worth paying.
