Advantages: Vocals, Music, Unique sound, Lyrics Disadvantages: Might be a lil too weird for some
significantly since then, with Raine as the only mainstay in the band, with the current line up being Maida, Jeremy Taggart on percussion, Duncan Coutts with bass and backing vocals, and Steve Mazur with guitar and more backing vocals.
At the time of Spiritual Machines, the line up was Maida, Turner (who would leave the band as a full time member after the album), Taggart, Matt Cameron (who would fill in for Taggart on two tracks) and Coutts.
The album was to follow OLP's 3 previous studio albums, in Naveed (1995), Clumsy (1997) and Hapiness... (1999), with it's own release in 2001. The title is taken from a science fiction book ?The age of Spiritual Machines? by Ray Kurzweil, who features in the album, the book was published in 1999. Advantages: Different and listenable Disadvantages: Sometimes verges on the cheesy
Our Lady Peace, for those of you who don't know (which is the majority of the british public) is a Canadian rock band, and this offering is their last that they made before their original guitarist left.
The album is a concept album, with ideas from a book from Ray Kurzweil, about robots becoming conscious and taking over the world and all that, but the songs that it strings together are excellent. Modern OLP is always easy to listen to, and sometimes cheesy, but the new ideas add a little extra that really makes the album special. My favourite track is 'Life', the least rocky, while Right Behind You and Made To Heal are excellent as well. Give them a listen - it is a travesty that they seem to have no success or radio play this side of the pond. ...
Advantages: Some great tracks Disadvantages: Soem terrible ones, doesn't sound like an OLP album, a lot of it seems to be too tame
Did OLP get forced into this one? Did it ruin the feeling for the fans? Did it almost destroy the band? Dare I ask, did they sell out?
Well Healthy in paranoid times was the 6th studio album by Canadian alternative rock band Our Lady Peace (OLP) and after the release saw the band leaving the label and spending several years out of the studio, it saw the lead singer record a solo album and 2 compilation albums before their most recent album (Burn Burn, released in 2009). The band had had reached a rather cult level from their early albums, with a heavy but yet surreal rock feel added to the uniquely charged vocals of lead singer Raine Maida, and after 4 albums had started to be seen a rather unique band. Lyrically poetic, vocally awesome and musically solid band that had found fame on a world scene with the song ?Whatever? (better know ...
