I have a Renault Clio and last July the exhaust on my car desperately needed replacing so I looked up a local Kwik Fit (at the time this was in Swindon) and went to their garage. They told me that my entire exhaust need replacing and that it would cost £280. I paid the money, feeling relieved that I would have a) a silent exhaust, and b) not one about to drop off ... or so I thought.
A month later I noticed that the exhaust had started to not only become 'blowy' again but there was also an unnerving squeaking noise. Feeling annoyed, especially after the expense, I went back to Kwik Fit with my warranty receipt, asking them to fix the problem. They did so and they apologised. Off I went thinking it must be sorted be now ... not so. I went back a further THREE times and each time I got 'Sorry' and 'It's sorted now'.
At the time of all this I was heavily pregnant (coincidence?) and under a lot of stress from work and moving house. The one thing I needed was a reliable car. The noise was so bad from the exhaust that I was very worried it would fall off! Although it didn't, it was a major concern. However, I was so busy with everything else I had to do, I left it for the time being. When I moved down to Devon, I thought I would give Kwik Fit one more try so I looked up a Plymouth garage. Went in there again, same routine, a couple of weeks later, you guessed it, the exhaust was blowing again. Before I had an opportunity to give Kwik Fit what for, I had my baby. Hence the time gap.
I've since taken my car to a different mechanic, who found that the exhaust actually had a massive crack in it and that was why it was blowing so badly. He replace that section of the exhaust for £80. He also said that this part of the exhaust had not been fitted properly, which was what was making the squeaking noise. I've written two letters to Kwik Fit demanding a refund, and tried calling Customer Services (what a joke!), who keep refering me to an Operations Manager for the South West who has said he wants to sort out the problem for me. Funny how he can only manage to leave messages on my phone and when I try to call him back, he's not available. He has since stopped returning my calls. Have I been fobbed off? Well that's one thing Kwik Fit has gauranteed. What's worse is that my exhaust is now blowing from a different part of the exhaust (originally it was at the front, it is now at the back), and although I have told them this in one of my letters, have they offered to sort it? NO.
Kwik Fit have wasted my time, taken probably more money than they should have done, and lied to me. So if you have a problem with your car, don't take it to Kwik Fit.
