I am now in my second year of being insured by Kwik fit and have never had cause to complain about them, until now, and that's because, until now, I have not needed them. Yes they are cheap, but when it comes to the crunch, I need more than that.
I was involved in a serious accident on the motorway a couple of weeks ago, so serious that the driver of the other vehicle involved is now in custody awaiting a court hearing for a charge of death by dangerous driving. As you can imagine, I have been very distressed and upset by the events of that evening.
I have fully comprehensive cover and the other driver is clearly at fault (although an admission would be impossible to obtain given that he's in prison, it would be hard for his insurance company to deny his liability). Given the circumstances, what I expected, and what I needed was for my insurers to do everything they could to help me in an understanding way, but what I have found is that they do the absolute minimum grudgingly.
First problem is that NIG, the insurers used by Kwik Fit don't deal with the whole claim, they only deal with the "insured losses" (the car basically) and they appoint another company, Albany Assistance, to deal with the "uninsured losses" the hire car, who in turn appoint Solicitors to deal with the personal injury claim. That's three different organisations that I have had to go through all the distressing details of the accident with.
Second Problem; When I first contacted Albany Assistance to report the accident, they told me that I was not insured. According to their records, my policy had ended in November and I had not renewed it. "No", I told them "My policy is not up for renewal until June, I added my brother to my policy for one week in November, but my policy doesn't end until June", the converstaion went on like this and the issue was not resolved until I had shed a few more tears and contacted Kwik Fit to get them to tell Albany Assistance that I was insured.
Third Problem; My hire car. When I bought the insurance, I paid an extra premium for a hire car in the event of loss of use of car, regardless of fault. Albany Assistance organised a hire car for me, I'm told that as all evidence would suggest that the accident wasn't my fault they will be able to recover the cost from the third party's insurance, however, if they can't recover the cost from them, I will be expected to pay for it. Hang on a minute, although I'm confident that I was not liable for the accident, that's not the point, they encouraged me to take out an addition to my policy for a hire car but would only actually give me the hire car if they could recover the costs from the third party, why am I having to pay extra then? In addition to this, they would not give me legal cover for the hire car, I don't think that it's unreasonable to expect that the car given to me to replace my own car is insured to the same level that I had paid for my own car, after all, had I not been crashed into I would still be driving my own car. I was simply told that they can't do this as they would not be able to recover those costs.
The claim is still on-going and I can predict more problems to come. In the immediate aftermath of an accident, the last thing you need is problems and battles with your own insurance company who are supposed to be acting in your interests. What I have found is that they act in their own interests and in the interests of the third party's insurance comapny. I will not be insuring myself with Kwik Fit again.
Advantages: Cheapest insurance I could find for 3rd Party Disadvantages: Had to chaise them up for documentation a few times
I have been with Kwik Fit now for just over 2 years and as far as cheap insurance is concerned they are the best. I paid £212 for 3rd party insurance which was the cheapest bar one I could find on the web. Probably like a lot of others, I had never heard of the other company and they might have been a couple of quid cheaper...but you rather buy from someone you've heard of.
The only minus I have had is this year with my renewal, spoke to them over ... ...But I did not receive my certificate, so a week or so after the old one had expired I phoned them and asked if they could send it me (after first checking that I was actually insured!). They promised to do so, so that was fine. Unfortunately I had to ring them again but then it arrived. The week before last though I go the post office to get my road tax renewed and guess what they'd omitted the car details (i.e. registration #) on the certificate. ...

Advantages: Very competitive quote, and excellent customer service. Disadvantages: None that I have experienced.
As February approaches each year, I prepare myself for numerous incoming telephone calls, masses of marketing post and an overflowing inbox. Why ? Because February is when my car insurance is due for it's annual renewal !
This is then followed by hours online, typing the same information over and over again, or alternatively repeating that same information over the telephone. To make matters worse, the telephone call centres are increasingly overseas, ... ...In August last year, when my car needed some work on the brakes, I took my car into my local Kwik Fit. If you've read my previous reviews, you'll know that I had a few problems which were quickly sorted out to mutual satisfaction.
Shortly after that I received a telephone call from Kwik Fit Insurance asking if I'd like a quote on car insurance. I'm sure you know the situation, when you just want to get off the phone to a telemarketer, so I said ...

Advantages: Cheap, All in one call, Friendly staff, Disadvantages: Found none yet
The time had come again for me to renew my car insuarnce, Has it really been 12mths since I last done the insurance. I decided to get the good old yellow pages out and phone several insurers when I cam across the number for Kwik-Fit Insurance.
I telephoned them using there freephone number 0800 027 2796, After listening to nice music I was told by a voice that all there consultants where busy and If I wanted I could use there call back service, ... ...my telephone and was then asked to leave a number and my name where I wanted to be called back. Within a few mins they called back (fantastic) The person I spoke to Nick beagan taking me through the quotation. Quote: There where about 25-30 questions in total, However this only taken about 7/9 mins to complete. Most questions did relate to your car insuarance, However there are a few questions that I felt why did I need to answer:
1, Do you smoke? ...

Advantages: none Disadvantages: cold calling makes you feel pressurised into making a decision
...received a telephone call from Kwikfit insurance who told me they could give me a great quote.
After nearly forty-five minutes on the telephone and endless questions I was then informed that someone would contact me to give me my quote.
Two days later, at dinner time, I received a call to advise me that a quote was ready for me. I explained that I was about to sit down to dinner but I was promised this would "only take a minute”!!!!! Thirty ... ...I was speaking to was persistent and would not let me hang up without a fight.
I explained that as I was very happy with my current insurance broker and saw no reason to move.”Ahh! But do you know they will charge you about £280 this year?” the rep said. I asked her to explain this and she said a few things about interest rates and taxes and said that is why your insurance will cost so much. By this time I was angry because my meal was ...

Advantages: Cheap Disadvantages: Everything else about them.
If I had been asked to write a review of Kwik-Fit Insurance Services a year ago I would certainly have recommended them as a great value company. I have used Kwik-Fit for four years now and always felt that they offered good value for money. However, that has all changed since June 1999 when my wife was unfortunate enough (through no fault of her own) to be involved in a collision. Following the ‘correct’ procedure the police were called and statements ... ...car to be collected and for a replacement to be delivered. All went well and the car was fixed and returned. Great - no hassles ‘100% customer delight’ as promised – wrong!! The next thing we heard from Kwik-Fit was in November 1999 when our renewal notice was delivered. The cost of our policy had risen from £350 to over £800. When we called to enquire about this we were informed that the claim that we had made was still outstanding and we had lost ...

Advantages: Fast, friendly service - great quotes for under-25s. Disadvantages: They probably aren't competitive for older drivers with a good N.C.B
...At the age of 21, I bought a Ford Escort Ghia (1994) 1.6 16v. With no No-Claims Bonus, the cheapest insurance quote I got was £1000, Fully Comprehensive. Yes, you did read that correctly. My occupation isn't dodgy and I have a clean license as well. Anyway, my poor car got stolen and my premium rocketed by another £400 with the same insurers (Lloyd's of London, incidentally - please avoid if you value your cash!). After telling them where they could stick their insurance, I phoned around most of the big insurers (Cornhill, Norwich Union, PremiumSearch, even KwikFit!!) I finally called Admiral. What a pleasant surprise I got. Firstly, they quoted me about £500 cheaper than the best other quote I'd had, which was £1000, and they put me on their 'Bonus Accelerator' policy - which boils down to the fact that you earn a year's No-Claims Bonus...

...You've probably seen the adverts on TV "Click click don't cluck cluck" … well even if you haven't they're worth getting a quote from. The main criteria I use when looking for car insurance is getting the best value deal. Notice I said value not price! For me that means comprehensive cover without ridiculous excess and the ability to make my own choices. With my postgraduate student status opposing my 100% perfect driving conviction record and zero claims I found myself struggling with this.
Swift Push
My battle began with my previous insurance company Kwik-Fit. Their renewal price was more than the previous year. When I rang them up to see if this was an error and if they could knock this down for me they not only refused but also would not give me a quote for a new home I would be moving to only a week after the policy would be...
