My car insurance was due for renewal at the end of January. I was insured until that time by C.I.S insurance who had given me a fantastic quote the previous year.
I had already made up my mind that I would use them again if their quote was low enough as I had had an accident several months earlier and they were very easy to contact and things were sorted out very quickly and painlessly. As I had paid £161 for fully comprehensive cover, I was hoping that my next quote would not be much more expensive than that.
I had put all thoughts of renewing my policy out of my mind until one night I received a telephone call from Kwikfit insurance who told me they could give me a great quote.
After nearly forty-five minutes on the telephone and endless questions I was then informed that someone would contact me to give me my quote.
Two days later, at dinner time, I received a call to advise me that a quote was ready for me. I explained that I was about to sit down to dinner but I was promised this would "only take a minute”!!!!!
Thirty minutes later I was still on the phone. The rep I was speaking to was persistent and would not let me hang up without a fight.
I explained that as I was very happy with my current insurance broker and saw no reason to move.”Ahh! But do you know they will charge you about £280 this year?” the rep said. I asked her to explain this and she said a few things about interest rates and taxes and said that is why your insurance will cost so much.
By this time I was angry because my meal was stone cold and very confused as to how I could be facing such large insurance costs for the following year. I was just about to put the phone down when the rep suggested that I make an initial payment over the phone with a switch card as she could get me a "super deal" for only £270. I could pay £50 now and the rest in installments.
I told her I would think about it and get back to her but she insisted that this offer had to be accepted NOW!!!!! I refused and again said I would let her know my decision at a later date.
A couple of days later I received my renewal notice from C.I.S. Was it for £280 as advised by Kwikfit????
No it was for a mere £170!!! So much for their "super deal".
I never did phone the rep back and surprise surprise she hasn't contacted me again either.

I too am with CIS, and phoned Kwikfit Insurance when mine was due for renewal, just in case they were cheaper. The quotes they gave me were about the same as CIS, but with an excess of over £500 (with CIS it is only £100 if it's my own fault). This apparantly was because I am a young driver (23 with full no claims discount). They guy at Kwikfit, when I said I would phone back if I wanted to take insurance, said "It's just flashed up on the screen that if you take insurance out now you will get a free immobiliser!". I explained I wasn't interested, but he insisted "If you phone again later, you won't be able to get the free immobiliser. What's you're credit card number?" At this point I decided never to use Kwikfit, but there may be some people who succumb to their pushy sales tactics and give their credit card numbers.

Our car insurance was renewed in Nov last year, it had gone up by £150/180 I couldn't believe it.
I tried everywjere even on the internet but eventually gave in.
Thanks for the op I will give kwikfit a look in.

They should not get away with this sort of behavior. Other people could be placed in such a situation. Thank goodness you kept your cool and stayed in control. Report them. I had problems with Insurance Express (Bham) - these people are sharks and are everywhere. Great opinion and very, very useful. Readers take heed :)
