My experience of Kwik Fit was a few years ago, but I am afraid I will never be going back there.
I was insured with them for a couple of years, during which time I had several changes in circumstance which involved amending my policy. They never ever got these changes right, and I had about 5 incorrect policy documents before getting an accurate one.
The final straw came when I was involved in a minor accident and had to have hospital treatment. I discovered that a new rule had been introduced whereby you had to pay around £20 for treatment after a car accident, and that this will be covered by your insurance company, regardless of who was at fault. A friend who worked in the insurance industry confirmed this for me, however Kwik Fit initially denied all knowledge of it.
I eventually got them to agree that they would pay it, and sent off the invoice to them. Several months later I was shocked to receive a reminder notice from the hospital. I telephoned Kwik Fit who said they had never received the documentation from me. I obtained a second copy, and sent this off to them again. They never received this either. I eventually faxed the document to them, but even the fax had to be sent several times before ending up in the correct office and being dealt with - all this involved a lot of time and money making phone calls.
All their business is done through a call centre, and it is difficult to ever speak to the same person twice. They are often busy, and you have to leave a message, but they either don't return calls or do so after you have already had to telephone them again and have sorted the problem out.
They may have been competitive at the time, but for the hassle I had over such a minor claim I don't think it is worth trying them again.

when I first arrived in the UK, many people warned me that Kwikfit is seriously flawed, and your op certainly confirms that. I have my insurance through USAA, an American company.....full benefits for only 50 quid a month (equivalent)....they kick ass!!! Chris xxx

I can well believe this. I didn't actually take out an insurance policy with them, despite a very persistent telephone call from one of their insurance reps. He wanted me to commit myself to a credit card paytment on the phone without sending me a quote in writing. No way! In any case they couldn't match the policy I had at the time before I told them the cost of the premium - and even then they wouldn't guarantee a competitive premium the following year.
