Advantages: Cheap and functional Disadvantages: Still leaves you with the same amount of clothes to iron...
...With two small children and a husband whose work-uniform seems to create a never-ending mountain of white shirts in our laundry basket, my washing machine is runing every day, sometimes even twice.
As our budget was a little tight for a while I really found it expensive to pay about 5 £ for a small packet of Calgon Limescale tablets, especially as it never seemed to last for more then maximum two weeks.
The alternatives were to stop using a limescaleproduct and risk losing the whole machine (not a very clever option and most certainly very unhealthy for an overstretched household-budget) or find a cheaper solution. I decided to check what other products I could find.
First I tried Tescos Limescale-Powder which was much cheaper, but didn't desolve so nicely and left big clumps in the drawer of my machine.

Advantages: Easy, Quick to use and very effective Disadvantages: To be used dialy so doesn't last very long!!
...or sensitive skin.
This product is produced specifically for Morrisons Supermarkets and contains amongst other ingredients less than 5% Polycarboxylate, Phosphate, Amophoteric Surfactant, Formaldehyde and Perfume.
The product comes in a 500ml plastic bottle and must be stored upright in a dry cool place. It is very reasonably priced at 79p and if you go when it is on offer you can pick up 3 bottles for the price of 2, or buy one get one free, making it even more reasonable. The only problem with it is that due to daily use, it goes down very quickly!
This is one of the best anti-limescaleproducts I have used. I have a curved glass shower screen and I hate cleaning it!! However, what I hate more is when it goes all cloudy from a build up of dirt and grease! This product is so easy to use. Once you have finished showering just spray...

Advantages: Quick acting, does the job Disadvantages: Needs lots to shift thick limescale

On the box it instructs you with how many "tablets" to use on normal limescale build up, which is 1 tablet and advises that for best results this should be left in the toilet over night.
For thick limescale use two tablets overnight. They come in little packages and can be corrosive to skin so you must wash your hands after using them. On contact with the water in the toilet bowl they start to fizz and work their magic.
Next morning...
