CONTRACT WARNING. you cannot cancel
Review of Virgin Active Fitness Club, London by
zfer
Advantages: if you want to make a lifetime commitment to a poor to average gym, great
Disadvantages: i don't live within a hour of a virgin active &they're taking me to court!
...court ! No correspondence from Virgin in that time, staff very unhelpful, and clearly bored with dealing with this problem. 3 months notice to exit actually refer to 3 specific months! And no guarantee that they won't just ignore you, as you have to cancel from the website, and have no record of your own! And if you are willing to debate the matter you could find yourself 'rolling over' into another 12 month contract, as they won't let you cancel ...

Holmes Place/Virgin Active still a great gym
Review of Virgin Active Fitness Club, Edinburgh by
MikeJones84
Advantages: large gym space, friendly staff
Disadvantages: bagel factory
...seeing the previous review regarding Virgin Actives policies towards towels I thought I should attempt to set the record straight from my perspective.
Holmes Place/Virgin Active in my opinion is still a great club and throughout the transition of the takeover have continued to be helpful and approachable when I've questioned any new policies. The staff are extremely friendly and I find the atmosphere of the whole club as enjoyable as ever.
In regards ... ...this by investing £3 billion into environmental research. Being asked to cut back on towels seems the least we can do for the problems we ourselves cause. Under Virgin I hope that the gym continues the high standards it inherited from Holmes Place and so far so good. ...

This gym is no longer a gym!!!
Review of David Lloyd Clubs, Milton Keynes by
leefree
Advantages: More children, no equipment, more expensive food, less changing areas
Disadvantages: They'll probably still make loads of money - vote with your feet people!!!
...above cannot be current!!
David Lloyd is turning into a cafeteria with few a pieces of gym equipment attached to it.
They have no respect for members requirements, and after 3 months of training in a building site (as part of the appalingly managed "refurb") - I've now been told have to start paying more money for the priveledge. For my extra money I will get inferior gym equipment (cardio machines are replaced with technogym equipment that doesn't ... ...it COULD be so good but this gym is all about taking your hard earned cash. David Lloyds should rename the club McFitness or Tesco's Fitness Emporium. I'm bitterly dissapointed after being a member for nearly 3 years - avoid! avoid! avoid! Corporate rubbish! with one motive: cash!!!!. ...

Virgin - Active enough for me
Review of Virgin Active Fitness Club, Leeds by
emsky2001
Advantages: Clean, friendly, good for all fitness levels
Disadvantages: Expensive
I joined Virgin Gym with my partner about nine months ago, lured by a friendly, low-pressure salesperson, and the chance of saving money on a joining offer. It cost us £70 between us to join, and the rest of the month was free. Luckily for us, we joined at the beginning of a month.
The administration side seemed efficient, except for a slight hitch with the direct debit, but that may have been our bank. It costs us £49 per month for peak membership, ... ...well. There is another Virgin Gym in Leeds, in Great George Street, which is cheaper and offers corporate discounts but doesn't have a pool.
The gym itself is big, clean and airy. Downstairs, there is a reception area, free computer and playstation area, cafe (offering healthy and not so healthy food at very reasonable prices), comfy seating area and library with more free-to-use computers. There is also a Virgin Cosmetics/Virgin Vie shop and a ...

A somewhat okay gym
Review of Fitness First, Holloway, London by
shister_not
Advantages: Good equipment and security
Disadvantages: Bad service, hygiene and ventilation. It is costly and almost impossible to cancle membership
...free joining fee. I joined Fitness First in October 2007, being a student I was able to pay the reduced membership fee of £32 per month. The staff were very courteous when I joined up and thanked me for joining. From this point in the level of service I received immediately depleted.
A few days after joining I, with my sister (who joined with me) went for the first time hoping for some form of introduction. We received no such introduction. Our ... ...am still a member of Fitness First.
Something I must say to everyone wanting to join this gym or any other gym probably is that you must be completely sure that you have to time a will-power to attend the gym. I do not, and because of this I am paying membership for a gym I don’t attend. ...
