...on the market there were hard lenses (like little flat thin pieces of glass) or semi-hard, which were not much better. They used to reckon that you would get used to wearing them after a month. I tried this, the month was hell, sore eyes, watering eyes, sore lids. Needless to say I gave up with those. A few years later (in the 1970s) semi-permeable and soft lenses came onto the market. They were much more comfortable and easy to wear. They did however cost an awful lot of money. I think I was paying £125 per year for one pair, and you had to clean them daily. With the insurance plan you were allowed one or two replacement lenses each year, as long as you had accidentally damaged them (not worn them out). Advantages: Cheap, comfortable, easy to put in

...receive help with the cost of your eye care like I do being a student, then you can have these lenses instead of glasses. There is also no hidden cost of cleaning solutions to look after them. The only other thing I have bought are artificial tears to stop them irritating on the very rare occasion they do and that’s only really when your in a smoked atmosphere. You can also swim in these lenses so no more sprinkled with water glasses in the pool. I can also play other sports without the risk of my glasses being in the way or getting broken. Go on try them out. So there you have it I think you must have gathered that this particular sort of contact lens gets my vote any day. ...me a lot as it means that I don't have to constantly be changing solutions and cleaning lenses. Value for money At first the thought of spending £22 (30 pairs) a month seems a lot but once you think about it its not that bad, it works out to be about 73p a day which isn't that bad really. I used to spend about £140 on a pair of glasses as I always liked the designer brands and they tended to last about 6 months as I was constantly having my prescription changed so it works out to cost about the same as a new pair of glasses. Extras As I found out it helps a lot to by some saline solution so that if you throw the wrapper away (which also contains saline) and you eyes become irritated you can take the lens out and wash it in the saline, and when you first get lenses you will find that this can happen a lot...
