A MUST-NOT for your PC...
Review of Neovo X 20AV by Mr.Freeman

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: You'll soon find out why its cheap...

As I'm writing this review, Im looking at this display screen now as my words appear under a camouflage of finger prints and smudging. I'm currently at my college where I study, and my college has bought over 300 of these screens in recent years. The AG screen is by far one of the cheapest monitor screens for computers you can buy (hence why my college has so many). The screen, although resiliant to the aggresive use of students has so many flaws ...
...buy such a screen. The screen only has to be brushed and smudges appear which take a lifetime to 'work' out. Quite often, the colour contrast settings will abruptly change and you'll be left startled and quite scared as a thousand pixelated colours appear screaming out at you. This inturn causes you to have to reboot your computer to sort out the 'flaw'. The monitors are very heavy, movement is limited due to the alluminium alloy on the outside ... Read review

Samsung 193t in black
Review of Samsung SyncMaster 193T by mpc456

Advantages: Clear text, high contrast, good looks, portrait mode
Disadvantages: *Unsuitable* for 3D games

How good is this monitor you ask? - well depends what you want it for. If you spend all day reading text off the screen or programming etc - this is a good choice. Thats not to say you couldn't get an aquequate 19" monitor for £100 less than this model (e.g. AOC LM-919/929). On the 193T the text is sharp and the colour is resonably consistant from top to bottom. This is an important factor to me, I owned a Hyundai Q17 17" - regardless of the viewing ...
...start blue and fade to light grey/blue at the bottom. The portrait mode for reading text is amazing, being able to rotate the screen 90 deg, really reduces the amount of scrolling. It does come with software to pivot the screen. If you have an NVIDIA card then the NVIDIA tray icon (can do this anyway). The footprint is not that small, it is still around 8" deep. It has no additional features but a usb hub costs around £10 and could quite nicely ... Read review

Probably the best monitor for £140
Review of HANNS.G HG216DP by DAkuma

Advantages: 22" for the price of a 19" / pin sharp 1680 resolution
Disadvantages: menu navigation below average

This monitor was a major jump for me, as my old Hansol CRT had nothing wrong (aside from being bulky, using lots of power, and being ugly compared to today's flat pannels). I put off getting LCDs until now, as I've never found one that can match a CRT for pure picture quality in all resolutions. That said, today's LCD's all still struggle as a trip to PC World confirmed after I spent a long time changing resolutions on all their display models (Luckily ...
...at all and distract me from this experiment). The one monitor that stood out for price vs quality was Hanns G, which has a 22" screen for a 19" price. I bought this from AdvanceTec for less than £140 and was amazed when it arrived, and wished I'd upgraded sooned. Going from a 1024x768 to the native resolution of 1680x1050 transformed my computing experience. The sharpness in detail, which can be adjusted in 6 stages is flawless. The colours are vibrant ... Acer does it again; another brilliant product
Review of Acer AL1916ws by SAMesan

Advantages: quick, easy to use, vibrant, fast
Disadvantages: slow on lower-end computers

...haven't looked back since, the Acer being superior in every single way. It is sharp, vibrant, responsive and easy to use, and I have completely fallen in love with it. If you purchase this monitor I promise you will not regret it. The Setup: As soon as I brought it home, hooked it up to my tower and turned everything on, the Acer quickly adjusted itself to give the best picture it could, and after changing the display resolution in Windows to the ...
...the widescreen expanse of the Acer gave every single game installed on my PC a new lease of life. Whether I was playing full screen and using the whole 1440x900 to enhance my experience, or playing in a 1024x768 window that let me keep tabs on other things such as MSN conversations while playing Team Fortress 2, I demanded from it and it delivered with flying colours. Image editing programs gave me a great deal more canvas space to work with at native ... Read review

Even less than it looks...
Review of Lenovo ThinkVision L192 by tartupets

Advantages: Bang for buck, specs and features
Disadvantages: active matrix

Lenovo ThinkVision L192 has been in my use for a year now and I cant say anything else to it: It is amazing... Sleek design of black and anodized aluminum combined with state of the art technology results in a mouthwatering candy for casual users and gamers. Well, I have tested this monitor with different applications and I can rest assured that this monitor lives up to its stats. Compared to a 17" widescreen that has the same stats, the 19" seems ...
...them... Plus the 5 ms refresh rate ensures smooth and flawless motion. 300 candela per square meter might be somewhat stressful to the eyes but during daytime, it ensures good quality... 800:1 contrast gives more natural and pleasant color and looks, to me, even more appealing. Somewhat not good is the active matrix feature. After I have played Bioshock, then the active matrix changes the brightness level too high and it keeps it there even when ... Read review
