Sharp LL 171G-B TFT Monitor

Advantages: Excellent picture, good quality
Disadvantages: Must be on highest resolution for a really clear picture

The Sharp LL 171G-B TFT 17" monitor cost me £250 during November 2004. Although it was at the higher end of the price range I decided a quality monitor was important as I would indeed be looking at it rather a lot. This monitor stood out to me because of its good looks, impressive specification and quality brand. The monitor is on an attractive 4 pronged, silver star shaped stand. Behind the actual display, on the stand, are two loop clips that can ...
...pixel pitch of 0.264mm the Sharp LL 171G-B is equiped to deliver a wonderful picture. The monitor is easily adjustable. The height is variable, the angle can be changed up or down and side to side easily and it stays in position when changed. There is a headphone socket on the monitor and some built in speakers, The speakers average really, and I prefer to use my own surround sound system. There are a series of menu controls on a silver panel running ...

So stylish it could be styled by Apple?

Advantages: Great style and build quality
Disadvantages: More expensive than other models. No 15" version as far as I know

If you've got this far, you've done well. This monitor is a real gem. It doesn't register very highly on the comparison sites or even ciao if you search for TFT. I am not going to write a full length essay or a five act play, but intend to help and inform you in your purchase without going to the lengths some people expect. The RRP is £155, but I got mine for £125 from ebay, which put it at the same price as a budget monitor from amazon or ebuyer. ...
...a bit pricey because most 17" TFTs are somewhere in between. The TFT is made by Sharp, who are an established brand and without being influenced by advertising or their reputation, I can say that the monitor is of good quality. It is well designed visually. The thin edge (bezel) saves space and creates the clean look that continues with the stand that fans out. It is sturdy and not as 'plasticy' as the cheaper models. The back of the monitor is white, ...

A Good Monitor That Doesn't Really Stand Out

Advantages: Vivid and crisp display, Fast update rate, Good controls, No dead pixels, Good auto-setup
Disadvantages: No DVI input, Fonts sometimes aren't as crisp as expected, Stiff hinges/base

The Sharp LL T17A3-B is a good 17" TFT monitor that doesn't really stand out from the crowd, but does its job well and the picture quality is great in both productivity software and games. I wanted a TFT monitor that I could transfer back and forth to university easily, but also one that would have a good enough update rate for gaming. This one seemed to fit the bill. Technology: One of the major complaints with TFT monitors (and the reason I've ...
...rate of the pixels. In productivity software such as word processors this isn't really an issue, but in games it can totally ruin the experience due to one image being left on the screen too long when a new one should have replaced it. However, I can't notice a big difference between this monitor and my 19" CRT at home in terms of update rate. The only game I've found to have noticeable blurring is Half-Life, although this could be attributed to ...

Sharp picture....

Advantages: Extremely clear picture
Disadvantages: Not the cheapest around

Having recently had to throw away my CRT monitor after a faithful five years of service, it was time to try getting one of these fancy new TFT monitors that I see all the time now. Fancy estate agents and hotels all seem too eager to show off these monitors even though half havern't a clue about them, just the latest office fashion accessory. However this said I've become rather pleased with the change from a traditional large monitor. For starters ...
...stretch out and its also much lighter allowing me to tuck it under my arm and take it on the go to friends houses. Getting more technical the contrast, typically bad in TFT monitors is excellent on this particular one, quoted as 700:1 and the refresh rate is plenty fast enough for you gamers out there at 25ms. Also I got mine in the black case which does look very good. All in all an excellent purchase. If you are looking for a 19" TFT monitor in ...

Serious value for money

Advantages: Sharp picture, relatively cheap
Disadvantages: No digital input, awful spekers

I was in the market for a new monitor at the end of 2004 as I like to do photo work and was using a 15 inch monitor, not really good enough. I used to have a 21 inch CRT when I had the space for one in my old flat, but moving house meant a different place for the computer with no where to hang the back end of the monitor over. A 19 inch flat panel monitor is approximately the same screen size as a 21 inch CRT, although you cannot get the same resolution. ...
...into the photo's I am working on. It has in built speakers but I really wish they hadn't bothered. They should have made the monitor even cheaper by not including them at all or added £10 - £20 to the price of the monitor and put some decent ones in. The control for volume, brightness, contrast and the other menu functions are all located under the monitor screen in the silver part you can see in the picture. Very simple to use and self explanatory. ...
