Graphically, the game is pretty much what ... ...of Gotham City out of Lego and you're in it. Each of the characters is rendered as a Lego man (or woman) and you'll recognize the likes of Batman, Robin, The Joker, Penguin and Catwoman instantly. Although presumably aimed at younger gamers, they've proved a hit with adults too due to some great gameplay and the irreverent humour of the concept.
Graphically, the game is pretty much what you'd expect; it's as if someone's built a giant model of Gotham City out of Lego and you're in it. Each of the characters is rendered as a Lego man (or woman) and you'll recognize the likes of Batman, Robin, The Joker, Penguin and Catwoman instantly. The neatest touches though are seeing objects (including the characters sometimes) getting broken apart into their constituent bits of Lego, as well as them assembling assorted objects out of their component parts too. Given the gothic atmosphere, things can get a little dark in places which makes things a little confusing and there's the odd wonky camera position, but nothing much to affect the gameplay. Sound effects are OK, but there's no real dialogue beyond a few generic bits of laughter and the music tracks, although faithful to the films, are a bit on the repetitive side.
The gameplay follows the familiar pattern. You race around, as Batman, with your faithful assistant Robin - optionally for the second player to control, although a single player can manage both easily enough - and bash up stacks of assorted low-grade villains, solving the occasional puzzle along the way. You can also break up bits of the scenery into its component Lego parts; yeah, I mentioned that before, but it's hilarious to watch, so it's worth repeating. There are a huge number of power-ups to collect that'll give you all the bat-gadgets you could dream of, including the Batmobile and other vehicles. Batman and Robin each get slightly different equipment, so you'll find yourself using both characters; some situations will require a turn from both which is great for co-operative play.
In a nice twist, you also get to play the role of the villains from time to time and this is real fun as each of them has their own special abilities that adds a lot to the gameplay. All in all there are 15 levels as Batman and Robin and another 15 as the assorted villains. Once you've finished a level you can return to it for free play which adds greatly to the longevity, particularly as you're then free to use the full range of unlocked gagets.
The controls are pretty easy to get the hang of and I'd reckon that even if you've never played any of the previous games in the series you'll get the hang of them in minutes, so it's the sort of game you could give to a younger child (7+ according to the rating mind you) or a butterfingered adult without too much worry of them not being able to get into it.
Overall, it's a fun game, if not in the slightest bit original and lacking any huge amount of depth. I can see hardcore gamers will turn their noses up at this sort of thing and return to the likes of GTA 4, Half Life 2 and other games with numbers at the end. However, for a more casual audience this game definitely hits the spot and even this hardcore gamer likes to have a few light hearted games to kick back and relax a bit with.
Highly recommended. This game is also available for PS2, Xbox 360 and Wii with similar quality across all versions. There's also a cut down version for the DS.

immense due to the fact it has being around longer than both the PS3 and Wii, you will get a lot more choice with a 360. The Xbox also has the best selection of exclusive titles from Gears of War and Halo to the immense Bioshock, although you can now buy this on the PS3, Bioshock was originally exclusive to the Xbox.
As many of you will know when the Xbox 360 was first released there were numerous bugs such as the infamous, red light. However, Microsofts latest versions of the console are all fixed and if you have got an older console Microsoft take full responsibility and replace your console for free, although you may have to wait up to 3 weeks to recieve it.
