Ah, star wars! Excellent stuff from the late 1970s! I enjoyed Star Wars, and grew up with editions 5 onwards constantly on the tv! I was also an active member of the "Lego Club" and had stupid amounts of sets all over the place! I know there was actual Lego sets released featuring Star Wars scenes but I didn't want to start collecting those as it would be too expensive! Besides, Lego makes too much mess, too much noise and takes up too much room. Now, I love my cute platform games and will happily sit for 4 hours and play "Tak" or "Spyro" so imagine my delight when this cute game of two of my childhood greats was released?!
It was meant to be a Christmas present, the only snazz was I had to order my own present because my brother's too lazy, doesn't go anywhere, and doesn't have a card! I ordered off Tesco.com for £16.99, but the game is available at Hmv or any computer shop. Check the shop "Game" as they've always got a second hand bin where you will find the excellent platinum game StarWars. My game is Platinum which means it has sold many, many copies in a short space of time! (No pun intended with Space!)
#The game genre
Made for the Playstation 2, this game is a platform with many strategies, puzzles, and occasional baddie shoot-em-ups. The game has a reward scheme in the sense of coins. You can exchange your coins in "Dexter's Diner" for characters or extra weapons. The characters, setting, backdrops and props are all made from Lego so there is no violent or offensive scenes. It is actually quite funny when a character dies or an object is broken, as they resemble actual Lego pieces!
The puzzles are often challenging and the characters are colourful. It is a simple platformer with good character interaction. The age is 3+ and the game play is simple enough for a young age group.
#Set up.
When you first switch the game on, you are taken to a language selection. I chose English (look for a nations flag). I am then taken to an options screen. The theme music plays loud in the background and I can choose to Load a saved game, start a new game or read the credits (this is just who made the game).
#Story?
"A long time ago in a Galaxy far away…" You start off as Qui Gon Jinn, a guy who unfortunately has to save the whole universe from the evil dark forces. You must journey through time and space and build spacecraft, rescue and mend robots, save spaceships from domination, and learn the all mighty skills of a true Jedi Knight.
Each level starts as each chapter in the movies does. Every time you enter a level there is a story board to read (or skip through) which comes on the screen slanting and cue the theme music! There is a fantastic action story that introduces you to the level and these are fun and comical. It involves a mini movie of the Lego characters and the facial expressions are excellent and funny.
#Movie levels
You start with "The Phantom Menace" fans will know that this is truly the start and not one of the recent films!! A short level that introduces you to the perils on board a spaceship. On this level there are many sublevels that represent chapters in the saga. You access the level through a door in the dinner. Once you complete one chapter on a level, the doors open for the next levels: "Attack of the Clones" "Return of the Sith", but only when you complete all of these will a points / coin bonus door open.
You can play each sublevel in "freeplay" or "story". You have to first play that level in story with the character the game chooses for you (that matches the film spec!), but in freeplay you can choose your character and return to the completed level at any time.
Throughout each level, whether in freeplay or story mode, you will always have an acomplis. This friend will always follow you and if your friend wants to join the game at any point, they can just pick up the controller!
Once a level is finished you can buy a character from the diner or if you successfully complete a level with a lot of points you win a new character anyway! You can take any character into freeplay and then you can flip through a choice of 6 during gameplay. This is very handy as different characters have different powers or can access certain levels.
#Hints or Tips?
(This game is fairly easy anyway so there's no major give-aways on how to get secret levels!) 1.) Collect as many coins as you can. 2.) Use your coins to buy characters and weapons (extras) 3.) Once you've unlocked (or bought) a Jedi (obi wan, Qui san, Han etc..) use the force to collect even more coins. 4.) To choose a Jedi character press R or L top controller buttons until your character comes on screen. 5.) To use your force hold O circle. 6.) An object with a blue haze can be moved by the force. If you've moved the object once, keep trying your force as many coins will appear! 7.) During a quick battle, choose a character with a gun. 8.) If there's no character with a gun, choose a Jedi and activate your Light Sabre with Square button. This will act as a deflector. 9.) Once you've completed a level with a story, go back to that level in "Free play". Now you can explore the level in depth and alternate your characters. 10.) Certain characters can open doors. The droids (R2D2/R3 or C3) can open secret rooms in spaceships and others can gain access into baddie head quarters. 11.) Make sure you complete a level to save all your coins. 12.) The shop part in "Dexters Diner" is where you go to save. Yoda will appear and Auto save is activated. If you go to the shop mid level, you loose the coins you have collected so far on that level. 13.) Complete a level in free play over and over as you go back to the diner every time you complete a level. Not only will you perfect your skills, but gain loads of coins also!

#My opinion?
I love this game. Highly addictive, entertaining, fun and nostalgic!! I am not a fan of movie-copying computer games as I prefer to play those that spawn their own cult following (Spyro the Dragon, Crash Bandicoot,) and not dwell on the fan base that already exists. But, this game seems different. Although it follows the films closely, it is both fun and comical and there are many little jokes to keep your eye out for! I loved the idea of buying characters and you can even buy a moustache which looks ridiculous on Lego men but it makes the game play even more interesting.
The game is not hard and being as I only had it Christmas time, and have completed it, I am left a little disappointed that there was no other levels than the main 3. The game would have been so much better if you could have gone further into the actual movie saga. As comical and extremely addictive as it is, its over too quickly and I'm left looking for another platformer to become addicted to!
(Started playing 26th December 2005, finished and nearly 97% complete by 20th January 2006.) - You can see from this short space of time I found it hard to stay away from, but you can also see the length and limit of the game.
#who's it for?
The game is rated for ages 3+ and children will love the spaceships and the characters. Even though youngsters can play this, it is very basic and I know a lot of kids that will become bored of the simplicity as it might seem a little too easy for them! But adults will love this game as it sort of wavers in their attention span! I can picture my 45 ish year old dad playing this with his tongue poking at the side and moving the hand controller frantically (even though its just a slight movement on the analogue stick that is needed!) and not giving in to the rants of "dad can we have the tv back now? Mam says you've got to do the dishes."!
This game is excellent for adults as it follows so closely to the Star Wars movies and is quite a nostalgic trip even if you hate Star Wars, because, well, it's LEGO!! What child has never played with Lego?! An excellent little platformer for keeping those spare moments of sit down heaven enlightened.
Hilarious quote from inside the game guide booklet: "Help for Parents. Lego Star Wars: The Video Game has been designed and tested to be suitable for players of all ages. But if you're a young player, you might find that your parents will want to join in. And although we've tried to make the game as easy as possible even for older people - inevitably, they're going to need help." Hehe!
Advantages: Load's of fun, very comical Disadvantages: none
...for game hints and exchange lego 'studs' for new characters, special items and secret features. You will also find episode doors here, (which are the 3 prequel episodes) but doors 2 and 3 are locked until you have completed level 1. sequence 'Negotiations'. Each scene you complete then unlocks the next door in the sequence. There is a fourth door with a question mark on it, this room contains the bonus level (a short prelude into Episode IV: A new ... ...screen!) and his characters little Lego head and limbs popped off. Needless to say - sorry didn't cut it (especially because I laughed when I'd done it) and was told I wasn't allowed to play ever again! So now I just sit back and watch the master…. (that's a six year old master.)
But when I was allowed to play I really enjoyed it, even though I had no clue as to what I was doing, I found it to be really humorous, you have hearts which symbolise ...

Before that moment ,my son knew very little -if anything about star wars but that was about to change!

Starwars Lego is a third person action adventure game following the plot of the three new Starwars films. Starting from Dexter's Diner you control a character and can choose to play chapters from Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, Episode 2:Attack of the Clones or Episode 3:Revenge of the Sith. Also within each chapter is a bar that fills up each time you collect hidden studs. If you get this 100% full then you will earn a piece of the Superkit. Once you ...

Advantages: cool characters drop in drop out mode Disadvantages: most characters have similar moves and to short
lego starwars is a funny little action / problem solving game that really brings the first three movies (the phantom menace, the clone wars and revenge of the sith) to life. it is a very simple and quite an easy game hence the 3+ age rating. The game itself is highly enjoyable and very funny. The addition of Dexter's diner (which basically consists of the main diner where you can select missions earn extra credits and even buy new characters and ... ...can view your collection of lego vehicles) is a very fun and original way to check on your progress and to select missions which is a lot more interesting than just scrolling down a menu and pushing a button. The game works its way through the first three movies and has a bonus mission if you complete the game. There are loads of different characters to unlock such as yoda, darth vader, bobo fett and princess leia. Problem solving is a big part in ...

Advantages: Never-ending fun for all ages Disadvantages: none
After reviewing LegoStarWars the video game, with some input from my little boy, he then asked me "why are you not writing about LegoStarWars II? It's better?" Hmm?..Well that's his opinion and so here's mine?.
Pretty much everything in this game is made of Lego bricks (sorry to state the obvious!) and just like the first game there is no spoken dialogue throughout the game, just gestures (even the most famous moments in the film.)
After the first game being such a success you might think a follow up game would be hard pushed to come close. But the first game was based on the 3 prequel films, and so LegoStarWarsII is based on the 3 sequel films, which are the originals (and best in my opinion) - The first of which is 'A new hope', the second is 'The Empire strikes back' and the third is 'Return of the Jedi'. Three awesome ...
Advantages: Co-Op storyline, well everything really its Lego & Star Wars :) Disadvantages: Complete loss of social life
A couple of years ago a former colleague lent me a demo disc containing LegoStarWars. A game based on the second trilogy by George Lucas encompassing Episodes I-III where the main protagonists are Lego people in a Lego world with Lego hands. Of course I thought this was going to be utterly crap...never in my life have I been so wrong.
After the successful demo I bought the game and became addicted. Imagine my joy when I found out they were to release LegoStarsWars II: The Original Trilogy!!
Despite my excitement, I was at first unsure LSW2 was going to tackle that fact that the force is used much less in the original trilogy and was such a big part of the first game. This unease was soon cast away though as I swiftly found out that the levels were constructed for both non-force and force-using characters which needed ...
Advantages: Good Gameplay, 2 Player Mode, Fun for All Disadvantages: Highly Addictive!!!
Legostarwars2 is a great game! The controls are very easy to learn and the game can be enjoyed by old and young alike!!! Obviously, everything is made out of lego bricks, this just adds to the humour of the game because what child hasn't destroyed a lego building before and seen all the bits collapse and make a profound mess? Well thats what happens in the game! If someone gets killed, they split into a bunch of lego bits and then re-incarnate! Unfortunately though, no spoken word is issued throughout the game! All the characters use gestures to convey meaning! This can be quite annoying or quite funny, depending on your outlook! Myself, and younger people of our household have all ejoyed this game, especially as it boasts an impressive 2 player story mode function! All children want to be able to play their favourite game with there ...
