Advantages Great picture quality

Disadvantages Owners manual is supplied on a CD

I have now owned my LG 50PS3000 for 6 months

Sourcing one at the right price proved to be a challenge, with prices from £699 to £999
I found two retailers at £699, but missed one of them by one day, however both were doing five year warranties within that price

Setup was easy, but due to the weight of the TV this is a two person job

As with all plasma TVs care should be taken in the first few weeks while the plasma gas settles, typicaily up to 250 hours viewing time
I found this TV gave out an extreme amount of heat during this time, but it reduced greatly over the next four weeks

I have mine connected to four sources
The Virgin Media is connected by SCART, on AV1
A SONY Playstation is connected by SCART, on AV2
A computer is connected by VGA, on RGB
A DVD Home Cinema System is connected by HDMI, on HDMI1
There are two HDMI inouts, so this will allow me to upgrade the Virgin Media to HDMI

Sadly the TV does not recognise any source automatically, you need to select for it yourself
However, the remote control easily allows for this

Since my TV is connected to a Home Cinema System the sound is not used on this TV, however when new it was found to be very good

The instructions are supplied on a CD, rather than a printed manual
This could be an issue for some people who do not have computer

The SIMPLINK function allows the use of the DVD player from one remote controi, however as mentioned in my other review on this system, I found this to be irrelevant as the other remote control is still required to reset the sound field
In principle it is very good, in practical terms it is pointless
However, when in use it does mean both can be turned off together!

Due to the various sources the picture resolution is different between them
The Virgin Media connection is SCART, this is 576i
The SONY Playstation also connected on SCART, this is 480i
Both of these have very good picture quality, although the TV pictures do often suffer from pixelation but that is due to the source pictures and not the TV
The TV then allows each source to be setup on its own
In the above I have the Virgin Media setup for CINEMA and the Plastation for GAME
These are standard settings and work quite well
The computer is connected on RGB, also setup on GAME
The DVD system is connected on HDMI, this allows 1080p although personally I can't see any difference from the previous DVD system which was also using 576i

The TV offers Energy Saving
This is inappropriate when watching TV programmes or films, so I have it turned off on those sources
However it works well on the Playstation and computer, as it helps reduce eye strain

Sadly after 6 months my TV has developed a fault and is to be replaced
Contact with LG was simple, given a case reference number (although I had to ask for it)
An engineer viisted a week later and advised the TV needs to be taken away and replaced, a repair is not possible
Sadly I need to wait until a replacement comes in to stock, and this is likely to be up to 2 months
Seems like new customers are more important that existing ones!

Updated :
A replacement arrived two weeks later but it was dropped during delivery, so I was left with my original faulty one
After a further three weeks wait but I was advised that a replacement LG was not possible and the replacement would be a Panasonic 50S10B
I compared the specification and accepted this alternative, which has its own pros and cons
