OK so before I begin this review, I should point out that I currently don't have this phone charged up, have never charged it up and can't yet charge it up until I find a charger therefore this review will be based on the looks, design and external features of this phone. I promise that I will update this review once I have charged and properly used this phone.

So to begin.

Well this phone pretty nice looking when you first see it. I certainly would pick it up and look at it in a phone shop. I would actually compare this phone to the Nokia 6101 which is very similar.

~ Features~
Camera, Camera Flash, one external screen and one internal screen (both colour).

I can't really fully comment on the camera at present since I haven't used it but it's location is interesting. A lot of camera phones (i.e: Nokia 6101) have a camera on the front or back but this one is on the side. If you look in the picture shown you can see it shown on the side view at the top, just slightly on the right. The flash is just to the left of it and very slightly down.

The camera's activation button is located on the other side. Again if you refer to the image, the frontal view, it's just to the right of the top of the silver bit and the bottom of the black bit..where they meet at the top of the phone. On the actual button is an outline, with a lens, of a camera.

When turned off or not in use, the external screen, which is in a circle shape, could actually be used as a mirror, i.e: for doing your make-up with. Close-up you can actually fit a whole eye into it.

The shape of this external screen is rounded but it's a bit of a trick really since the actual screen is a rectangular shape with the rest of the 'mirror' surrounding it. As you will see in the image the LG logo is located just below the actual screen at the button of the whole circle.

The sound button is located directly below the flash (see image -- side view).

This phone also has an Infrared (IrDA) port which is located, in reference to the image, at about the same location of the final m in mm on the vertical measurement. Although when lying flat on a surface it may not fully line up with another Infrared port, you don't need to fully align them since the beam will normally still reach it's destination anyway.

You can't really see it at all in the side view but there are two small indents in each side, both at the same level, which would be used for a car kit holder.

At the top of the phone, at the back there is a small loop for either a wrist lanyard or a neck lanyard. Also at the top is a socket for a headset / hands free kit.

When opened, this phone looks rather impressive. My one has a silver keypad, a silver earpiece and a silver outline around the screen. At each corner of the whole internal screen area (outside of the silver area) there are 4 rubber 'ridges' which help protect the phone on closure and when normally closed.

On some versions of this phone, below the actual screen you will find either the LG logo or the logo of a network operator.

As you would expect, there are two selection buttons. Slightly below them you get the, what I'm going to call, "Central Control Area" which features a blue 'OK' button (with an 'i' in the centre, like the @ symbol), and then you've got four directions; up, down, left and right. Each direction has a small indented 'outline' / 'shape' / thing...see below for details;

Up = Telephone = Phonebook
Down = Heart = Favourites
Left = Telephone vibrating = Profiles
Right = Envelope = Messages

Then below this whole 'central control area' you have the C (clear) button and either side of this button is the green (on the left) and the red (on the right) call answer/end buttons.

In terms on the number keypad area, see below for details.

1 = VoiceMail
2 to 9 = All the usual letters in the normal order
* = To activate the voice dialling and also to use symbols
0 = The + symbol and to insert spaces
# = Shift / changing case (when entering text / numbers)

At the bottom and slightly to the left hand side of the phone is the microphone. To the right of the microphone, almost centrally aligned is the model number which just says 7100.

(This next paragraph is new as of 3rd Sept '06) Sadly this phone currently has a fault with the microphone which will need fixing. Once I have fixed it I will be using the Orange SIM card from my Siemens A62 (see other review) in this phone and not use the Siemens any more.

So to quickly finish up...this phone seems OK for now but you'll have to wait for my opinions once I've got a charger and charged it up.

And finally, I promise that as soon as I've charged it up and had a good 'play' with it, I'll change this review based on my **new** opinions.

[Note: Sorry this review is so long but if you think you can shorten it up, please let me know]

***UPDATE #1: I'VE BROUGHT A CHARGER AND HAVE CHAGED UP & USED THE PHONE NOW SO I'LL UPDATE REVIEW VERY SOON***

***UPDATE #2: I'VE STILL GOT TO GET AROUND TO RE-WRITING THIS REVIEW PROPERLY! SORRY IT'S TAKEN SO LONG BUT I'VE BEEN BUSY***

Wow. - how many mobile phones do you have? A very technical person you must be. I have just invested in a Sharp GX 30i which I got on eBay for £40. Thats about the third phone i've had in five years. Anyway your review was very informative and interesting.

Sorry for the low rating, but Ciao is supposed to offer consumer reviews based on personal experience. How are you able to recommend a phone if you haven't used it properly? Let me know if/when you update with something that reflects your actual use of the phone and I'll re-rate. Ben
