I bought the phone for Christmas, as it was the first one in a long while that appealed to me aesthetically. (I had the Siemens SL55 before..) After a little more than 2 months it has become clear that the phone lives up to most expectations.
So, the positive part first: LG delivers every new phone with usb-cable, headphones, software, and black, slim pouch. Setup is easy, as the phone is recognised as an external storage device by XP immediately, and can be accessed as one, too. The phone is beautifully finished with the one port being covered up (the plug is attached to the phone, so you can't loose it!). The pouch is also very useful, as the phone fits in perfectly and is cleaned and protected from other things in your pocked like coins or keys. I haven't had any problems with scratches so far, and I haven't been treating the phone carefully. The battery-life is decent, but it won't last much longer than 2-3 days. If you make a lot of calls, you'll have to charge it every day, but that's the same with every phone I've seen so far. It's definitely enough to take lots of videos and pictures (1.3m pix). The internal speakers give a - considerably - good sound and I've never had any problems with voice-quality. With only 83g it's rather light, too. Bluetooth and infrared are working fine. Finally, of course, there is the incredibly good look, especially when the phone is closed!! (but don't just put it on the table when in company, it's rude!!! :) )
But some of the details of the phone aren't thought through too well: Only the LG headphones can be used with the phone, as the phone only has one unique port. That can be annoying, if you don't take them with you all the time, because it's impossible to just borrow some. The plug covering up the port is attached with only a rather flimsy bit of plastic. I didn't have any problems with it myself, but a friend broke his in a rush. The shiny surface also shows every fingerprint, which is, however, mostly cleaned away by the pouch. The touchpad can sometimes be activated when sliding the phone open, as your fingers will normally be on it when you do so. Should you have big fingers or bad coordination, the occasionally misplaced finger can bring you right back to the main screen.. slightly annoying sometimes. When making a call, the touchpad is deactivated of course, but the side buttons can interfere sometimes and end the call for you. The worst thing for me is the slow reaction time of the keypad, though. If you're a fast typer, the phone will frequently miss-out some letters. The t9 is not very well thought through either, as after finishing a word you can not go back to it and change it!! You will have to delete and rewrite it. When changing between capitals/lower-case/numbers, the order of options could be improved, too. Finally, the internal memory of 128mb is definitely too small. I've had some trouble making the phone show pictures I saved on it (they are limited to around 400kb),,too and it comes with only one game ( sudoku ).
Well, even though the negative side seems a little longer, I would say that I am rather happy with the phone. Most problems are only noticeable when texting a lot. If I haven't mentioned something, it's probably ok, just not unusually good. Should you have any questions, or if I missed anything essential, I am of course happy to answer any queries.
I hope the review was helpful! Thanks for reading..
