A couple of years ago mom had a Hoover Vacuum cleaner and recently it decided to stop working. Our electrician had a look at it but we decided that it would probable cost as much as a new cleaner to get it fixed. Oh, how I remember the days when you could buy a Hoover and it would last for years!
Anyway since we now needed to get a new cleaner for mom, out came the Argos catalogue where we spotted the LG bagged upright cleaner for just £39.50! Now we all like a bargain in our house but we were a bit dubious about this one I have to admit. I mean a brand new vacuum cleaner for £39.50 – never!
We decided that we would give it a try, accepting that this might just be one of those ‘you get what you pay for’ purchases if you know what I mean.
Dave and I headed off to Argos to fetch the beast. It was packed in a strong cardboard box about 4ft in length, which weighed 11kg, so I was glad Dave was there to carry it out to the car for me.
When we got home Dave grabbed his screwdriver and proceeded to put the vacuum together for mom.
The vacuum comes in two halves and is very easy to assemble - the main body of the cleaner in a deep red and the grey handle. The handle slots in to the main body of the machine and is held in place with one screw, in fact the assembly is so easy even I could have done it!
The other things in the box were a full instruction booklet, three vacuum cleaner bags, a spare belt and a small upholstery brush attachment.
The tools for ‘above floor’ cleaning can be stowed on the cleaner itself so they are always handy to use. Now that is a big plus for me as I wouldn’t be bothered to fetch the tools out of the cupboard to use then as it would be too much trouble, but having them there in front of me makes it much more likely that they will get used.
The tools are as follows:
A telescopic extension tube – this will extend to about one metre in length. You just twist one end of the tube to unlock, pull out to the required length then twist again to lock.
A long crevice tool - this is the one for getting into awkward corners.
An upholstery tool – this is the one that takes the soft brush attachment.
When the vacuum is put together there is a flexible pipe, which attaches to the back of the vacuum cleaner. When you need to use any of the tools you just pull this out of the back of the cleaner and attach it to whichever tool you want to use.
The features of the cleaner include:
7 stage HEPA filtration 9m cord 5 litre dust bag Self adjusting floor head 1400 watt motor 12" cleaning width with edge cleaning Detachable tool holster Built in tools Weight - 6.8kg
I confess that I have copied the features from the instruction booklet so that I don’t miss any of them!
The front panel of the vacuum unclips easily to reveal the dust bag compartment, so changing the bag is simplicity itself.
The vacuum is switched on by a rocker-switch, which is at the top of the main body, and there is a button at floor level to press with your foot to angle the vacuum cleaner for ease of use. By using this button the whole thing will flatten down to the floor making it low enough to go underneath most furniture.
One of the selling points of this cleaner was the weight as my mom is only slim and she’s in her 70’s so we needed something fairly light. This machine is light, quiet and very easy to use.
The vacuum had something of a baptism of fire as mom and dad had just had replacement skirting boards fitted in the dining room so there was fair bit of dust as you can imagine, especially in a hundred year old house, but the new toy coped with it admirably.
It happily cleans the deep pile carpets in the bedroom and lounge, as well as the cushion floor in the kitchen and even mom’s rugs, which are notoriously difficult to clean!
The instruction booklet is in English (so you don’t have to sort thought a dozen foreign languages to find the right one) and is well written and easy to understand.
We did have a problem with our first one of these cleaners, as it kept fusing the plug, but we took it back to be replaced and’ touch wood’ the replacement is great!
For £39.50 it certainly is a bargain with features that you would usually expect from higher priced cleaners.
If you are after a new vacuum cleaner and are a bit short of the readies, or like us, you just like a bargain; this is the one for you!
Advantages: Price, HEPA filter, 9 meter cord. Disadvantages: No beater bar stop switch.
...entered the details for the LG upright and to my astonishment, it really was just £39.50! I was not going to let an offer like this pass me by, I reserved the vacuum and shot of up to Argos to collect it.
The "LG bagged upright cleaner" comes in a grey and white box about 4ft in length and weighing 11kg. Now, for a strapping young guy like me this is not a problem, some might find it a little heavy to carry from the store though as there are no ... ...a vacuum cleaner. The LG offers many more features than some higher priced cleaners and the performance is brilliant. If you are after a new vacuum cleaner and are on a tight budget, I would highly recommend this one. You'd better be quick though as for this price, I don't think Argos will have many in stock for long! lol
Thanks for reading and "Ciao for now" - J. ...

Advantages: super, sexy, cool Disadvantages: Small dust chamber-could be a problem with a hairy pet
...Retail Park I hunted the LG Cyking down. It was quite difficult to come by. Out of Comet, Curry’s and Powerhouse only Curry’s stocked the little baby. But there she was. On her own display stand, gleaming in glory and glinting in the sun light. I knew then that I had to have her. Upon receiving the loan instalment I hurried back to Curry’s and there she was, waiting for me. A little space age bug in appearance, the LG Cyking is ... ...to its competitors.
The LG Cyking sucks at 1600w where as the Dyson DC05 has a measly 1200w. The control is situated on the grip handle of the tube in the form of a rather sexy gliding switch. The telescopic tube length is easy to adjust and the attachments are on board the vacuum in its futuristic bug lid. Attachments include an upholstery nozzle, dusting brush and crevice tool and a small cleaning brush. The large cleaning head has pedal controlled ...

Advantages: Performs adequately Disadvantages: It's not a Dyson
...He came home with an LG Slimax.
I was non-plussed.
“It had a good write up in Which?” Says he.
I kept my own counsel.
Made in Korea, the LG Slimax is an upright cleaner with four basic on board tools, which are two extensions, a crevice tool and a dust brush. I find the tools adequate for my needs, easy to transfer to, and the suction when using them is just as good as when using the main vacuum. Also, the man never complained so unless you’re ... ...it with my hose. The LG has nowhere near the extension length but I can go to the foot of our stairs (this is a quaint old Yorkshire expression for those of you who don’t know, but in this case it also happens to be true) with the vac sat at the top.
It is 1400w and its suction power is 180/200w. Neither of these means much to me. It has got good pulling power. One of my doubts was that it would not pick up as well as the Dyson, but it has not let ...

...the assistant had sent back. LG refused to give me a new head as only mechanical or electrical parts are covered under warranty. The fact that the vacuum is useless without the broken part is irrelevant. If I want to be able to continue using my Cyking I must pay out nearly £30 for a new part.
I am asking for a refund this weekend, as I cannot use my machine, and they are refusing to repair a defect under warranty. I am also going to go out and ...

Advantages: Brillian Sucker Disadvantages: May get to like it too much!
...its sporty red armour. The LG Cyking Sport. At only 129 pounds it was over 100 pounds cheaper than the equivalent dyson. I have both wood and carpet floors in my house, I needed a vacuum that could cope with both and I have found that with the Cyking.
You can change the power of the suck motion dependant on the floor you are on so it doesnt take half the pile from your carpets! You can also set it onto the AUTO setting which detects the dust level ... ...power accordingly. All of these settings are available in a handy position on the hose rather than on the actual vacuum and mean an end to bending to turn it off/on or kicking it with our feet to get it to go!
The dust collection chamber isnt too small and we can hoover our entire 3 bed semi without emptying it............ twice. When we did empty it, then it was still only just 1/2 full. Emptying was easy and relativley hassle free. Its a brilliant ...
