I purchased my LG DV-1000 from Argos around a year ago, especially for the Fellowship of the Rings extended DVD (what a geek!) - But as I live in a fairly small flat, I didn't want 2 machines taking up space, when I could get 1 for a good price. In fact, it only cost me £110 from Argos.

The first thing you notice with a DVD player is what it looks like, and this one is pretty smart looking, in my opinion. Silver, shiny and reflective.

Secondly, you have to set the thing up, and setting this up was made simple by a clear consice instruction manual, and uncomplicated on screen menus.
A bonus is that it sets the date and time itself from signals it receives via the ariel!

It doesn't have video+ programming for recording off the telly, but it's really simple to do it manually (My parents got one too, and even my *mum* can programme it !!)

You can record DVDs onto VHS at the touch of a button, although this may be illegal in certain circumstances, so don't do it if you're unsure - I only mention it because you can.

There are multiple playback options on the DVD, including 1/16th speed, 1/8th speed etc, and a zoom function, which is nice to play about with.

When recording VHS from the T.V the playback is very good, with no fuzz or snow.

I know that this machine can play MP3s, although I haven't had a chance to use this facility yet.

So there you have it, nice to look at, easy to use, low price and you don't have to chuck out all of your VHS just yet ;)
