Unit, Picture and Sound
The unit itself is really smart and elegant. The buttons for basic controls like channel changing, volume adjustment, and basic menu control are hidden neatly on top of the set. There is also an attachable cable tidy loop.
The picture quality is excellent. Its very sharp and clear.
Sadly the sound quality is appalling. Imagine a TV programme where theres a TV turned on in the background. This is what this unit sounds like to me - the TV in the background. It hits me every time I walk in the room. The small speakers give a very flat tinny sound, Its just really irritating. LG have really let themselves down with this one. External speakers are a must. Im not sure yet how this would be done. Theres no indication in the manual of how best to attach external speakers. It does indicate that a VCR can be used to record TV programmes through the SCART connection so it may be possible to pick up a sound signal from the back of the VCR or from the SCART socket itself using an appropriate adapter.
Manual
T he manual was provided on a CD which is a really nice touch. Sadly it didnt work and I had to search through the CD manually for the appropriate PDF file. The manual has some good information, including the good old classic OPEN THE BACKSIDE AND INSERT BATTERIES and also the particularly helpful: IF YOUR TV WILL BE TURNED ON, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE ITS FEATURES. However, there are some areas where the manual is very sparse, such as information about editing the programme table and on the subject of audio output.
Installation
Installation was pretty good except for the auto analogue tuning which made a real hash of the programme table. It picked up a lot of junk along with the correct channels and for no apparent reason left them spread over a wide area in the programme table with large empty spaces in between, I had to manually move them to the correct places. This is quite intuitive but is not documented in the manual.
Controls / General
Generally operation works well. Flipping through the channels with the remote is slow since each time you press a number button it waits to see if your going to press another for a double digit channel. It takes around three seconds each time. The scrolling up and down through the channels is faster.
The menus and other on screen text is smaller and of poorer contrast than I would have liked it but its okay. The channel name disappears from the top right corner very quickly after changing channel and there doesnt seem to be a way to recall it.
The remote is well laid out and easy to use. The Q-View which takes you back to the previously selected channel I particularly liked. The remote is programmable so you can set it to control other devices if you know the IR codes they use.
There are no unexpected OH WOW! features in the TV. I would really liked it to have had a screen mute facility where the screen blanks off completely whilst listening to the radio or listening to CDs through a DVD. You cant really use a TV as a stereo system with the display turned on all the time. It just looks odd. A headphone jack and of coarse simple audio output socket would have been nice. Strangely the manual warns that a continuous fixed display on the screen could imprint itself on the display. I didnt think this was an issue for modern TVs and monitors.
Advantages: Picture and sound quality are excellent, great looking bit of kit Disadvantages: Location of input ports
I set out looking for a small flatscreen TV for the bedroom about 6 months ago and got myself a great deal on this little number which looks great (even when switched off), sounds great, and is HD ready.
===The good bits===
I have almost only good things to say about this model! I found it extremely easy to use - tuning it in was a breeze and done in only a few minutes. I didnt need the instruction manual at the time, but I have it in front of ... ...easy to follow with diagrams of all of the controls both on the TV unit itself, and the remote control, and an explanation of what each button or socket is for. I think even my technophobe parents could install this themselves! :-) The 'basic' user manual is a fairly thick book, but dont let that fool you, its because its the same thing repeated in 22 different languages....more advanced features are explained in the CD ROM shipped with the unit.

Quick review of LG 19LS4D
A good looking tv, easy to install and set up.
Excellent picture quality but unfortunately let down by very poor speakers.
The sound is well below the quality expected in a tv of this price. Although clear it is tinny and no amount of adjustment makes a suitable difference.
If you are going to play through a hi fi system then fine, otherwise have a good listen in store first.
Disappointing ...

...priced tv. i go the lg 7 months ago and it has not yet gone down on price.
the built in freeview is good although my set top box i can flick through the channels quicker as every time i press the button i need to wait for the picture to come up before i can change it again and the info display has to be brought up manually and is in the center of the screen which can be a nuiscence. so i just plug my set top box into the scart socket at the back. ...

Quick review of LG 19LS4D
I have the new LGLS4D 19" wide screen TV. Purchased at the good price of £114.99. This set replaces the old 17" wide screen LG which I have had for 3 years.
My advice would be to not buy this set as the sound quality is dreadfull and there is no way of rectifying this problem.
The picture is outstanding but you will be very disapointed with the overall unit.
