The big plus is the picture - It is absolutely perfect - take your breath away style! The colours are beautiful and vibrant, there is no flicker ... ...It has all the fancy features that the top names have such as different sound settings - theatre, sport, speech, etc. Multiple scart inserts and a remote control that I am reasonably sure could turn the kettle on, if I ever work out the features!

As you know if you have read some of my other reviews, I don't do technical! Anybody can type in the spec off the internet, I prefer to let you know about useability.
I bought this TV from Currys a few monthes back. I paid £999 for it and had a surround sound kit thrown in. It was a good deal at the time, but as you know with this kind of technology, it is always moving on, so I dare say you can do better!
One word of warning, don't just accept the shop price in Comet or Currys, but check on line first. The deals are often different. If I am spending so much of my hard earned cash, I want to see it in action and make sure it is just right for me, so prefer to visit the store. This TV was £100 cheaper on line though, so I asked them to price match it in store, which they duly did. I have a sneaking feeling that if I hadn't mentioned it though, they wouldn't have done it - what do you think?
First tip! Make sure that you have a big car! The box is huge! I thought I would fit it into my car with the back seats down - no chance, fortunately my mate came to the rescue with his trusty van!
Another thing about moving the TV - this bad boy is heavy! Not just a bit, but a lot. I went for the fancy option and mounted it onto the wall. Make sure it is brick wall and not plasterboard and that you have two people to lift it, it would be a rather expensive item to drop!
So there it is on the wall and looking sweet. I must say that you should make sure that your room is large enough to take such a big TV. They are quite imposing and take a bit of getting used to. If I'm perfectly honest, it is a bit too big for the room (I've put it in the conservatory ....... on the brick wall!) but I can't admit that to my wife! She can't be right everytime.

We do love to use it for the Playstation as well and as it's mounted on the wall, it is really handy that the Playstation sockets are on the side of the TV rather than trying to fiddle around at the back. It means we can simply unplug the Playstation and make the room look a bit tidier.
One of the extra features that the TV has is PIP (picture in picture) It's not quite what I thought it might of been though, either that or I haven't fully figured it out properly - I'm a bloke, so not really one for instruction manuals! I thought I could watch 2 channels at once - not sure why I would ever want to, but thats what I thought! The reality is that you can watch another input at the same time without interrupting your programme. The best example that I can give would be if you had CCTV on your house that ran through the TV - if there's a knock on the door during Corrie, hit the PIP button and see who is there without missing a second - or something like that!
The sound qulaity is good, but not as breath taking as the picture. I am glad I haggled for the surround sound package and would recommend that you do the same. If you don't like ugly extra speakers though - I'm not really a fan - then it doesn't detract too much.
To all the boys out there that love their toys, I have only one thing to say - football. The big games look nothing short of magnificent on this beauty and trust me, they have made it worth every penny of the £999. The TV is obviously HD ready and comes with built in Freeview, Freeview comes with an amazing amount of free channels these days and it definitely saves the mess of having a freeview box underneath. I am tempted to upgrade to HD because every body tells me that it is great and if picture quality can get even better than this, then I'm up for it - I think I'll hold on until the cost comes down though!
All in all I would recommend this TV highly if you were thinking of going LCD.
Advantages: Great picture and excellent features. Disadvantages: You may need to spend some extra money on a surround sound system.
...television. I eventually chose the LG 42LY95. It's long list of features are what grabbed my attention. At £920 plus £25 delivery it was a good £500 under my budget.
The t.v is cased in the industry standard shiny black plastic. I would have preferred a white casing to match the color scheme in my room, but this model only comes in black. As for shape, it looks more or less the same as nearly all of its rivals. Now, I have laminate flooring in my ... ...my front room shake around a little, if I have a few guests over I tend to take vases and picture frames out as they tend to vibrate themselves off there unfixed positions. Once the t.v was mounted on the swivel stand that comes with it I gave it my sturdiness test. Me jumping of my sofa on to the floor. With the screen switched off I did notice a tiny bit of movement but with the screen on I didn't notice a thing. There was no problems with flickers ...

Quick review of LG 42LY95
Superb picture quality and crisp sound. Plenty of socketry available. TOS Optical audio output available to matching 1000Watt Cinema system. Both Blu Ray and HDDVD are stunning , with no fast motion blurring, thanks to the 24fps chip. Built in freeview is a bonus as is component connectivity for the X Box 360. Easy to navigate menus and superfast setup are a bonus, as are the accompanying circuit diagrams for 'techies' like me, who planned a full HD 1080p system. As a family we are hard to please. We've had this 'beastie' since November 2007 and it's superb. Everyone who has seen it running, particularly with the PS3 connected, is 'gobsmacked' by the sheer quality of the images on screen. Hi Def ? Look no further !!! ...
