LG 42PG3000 - Not 1080p But Too Good to Matter At This Price
Advantages: Amazing picture in both SD (the one you will watch the most) and HD (where it will blow you away) Disadvantages: Not 1080p... Can you live without it?

As this is a plasma TV the colours are very sharp ... ...I played an old laserdisc player through it and (why, I do not know) as it was almost unwatchable on a 32" LCD panel as the blacks were just darker shades of grey but the higher contrast ratio of the plasma set really nailed them. This dead old format is very nearly watchable again. Upscaled DVDs look very nice on it and make you dig out your old collection to re-watch again.

This is a great TV for the money. A 42" HD plasma TV for under £500 may sound like it may have a number of serious drawbacks that would rule it out as a purchase but if you can ignore the fact that it is not a 1080p set then it makes perfect sense.
I was in the market for a new TV and my choices were, considering my budget, restricted to a full HD 32" LCD set or a 42" plasma set but not 1080p. I auditioned a number of the 32" sets and ruled them out as full HD on a screen that size is irrelevant. Many of them really struggled to give a watchable picture when displaying standard definition. Given that, like most people, SD is what I will be watching most, you really need a set that does this well. On the other end of the scale there HD sources and here the set really shines, literally. Running a PS3 through it either gaming or for Bluray movies just shows how good this set is. It is what it was made for. Xbox 360 stuff through component is also a wonder to behold. The HD-DVD of Bladerunner was a revelation ( I obviously like my dead formats) as it is a very dark film but the darkness was very much alive thanks to the higher contrast ratio of plasma.
I have my PC running through it and it does make a very good monitor. It does take a bit of tweaking to get the best out of it but it is well worth the effort.
As you can see this set does not lack for inputs so I cannot fault it for that but it would have been nice to have an audio out but never mind. Other niggles that stop this set getting a 5 star from me include the obvious lack of 1080p resolution but it this price range it is to be expected and it is not really missed given the overall picture quality otherwise. The glass screen can be very reflective and requires careful positioning to avoid glare. My first set had a dead pixel just right of the centre of the screen. If I wasn't using it as a PC monitor I would not have noticed it but I was and I did and once you see these things you will always see them.
Overall this is a fantastic set and if you can live without it being a full HD panel (believe me, you can) then it makes a fantastic choice for your new TV. Buy this set, you won't regret it.

as soon as i took it out the ... ...careful when you lift it anyway the first problem i hade was putting the stand on the manual dindt describe or help in anyway first i could find were to put the stand then i found out i have to remove a piece of plasstic but after that there is no real problems.
i feel it could have been asembled better as the frame of my tv is a tiny bit warped.
the next thing i want to say is the huge problem which still hasnt got a cure PLASMA BURN

Recently bought this tv, not had a single problem yet, I felt that at first the tv could produce a better picture than it was doing, so i switched my virgin media box from an av connection to hdmi connection, and the picture is fantastic now, I have also done this with my playstation 3 and now the picture is, in my eyes, perfect! The size of the screen also means its perfect for your main tv in the living room, without being too big or too small! ...

this LG hd plasma is top stuff i rate it 10 out of 10 good vaule for money
build in freeview with loads of extra channels and easy to use menu
no need to buy a freeview box build in radio stations unreal movie picture clearness and sharp sound
42 inch screen great for the ps3 in full hd
or bring your mates round to wacth footy its up to you most come with stand
great picture and sound
you can also buy suround sound packages that are very nice
