LG DR 4810

Not the best DVD recorder available. It has some good points but i feel these are outweighed by its bad ones?

It is a DVD-RW recorder that for when it was produced had an impressive array of features. Just a shame that they are not easy to use.

First the connections:

2 X Scart on the rear
AV in/out on rear
AV in/out on front
S-Video front and rear
IEEE-1394 Firewire on front
Component Video on rear.

It does not have HDMI for connecting to HD equipment.

That said there are enough connections to keep most people happy?

Playback.

It has a habit of refusing to play disks particularly any produced on a PC, I'm not talking illegal copies i mean home movies put onto DVD. It also refused shop bought DVD's on occasions. When it does play disks the picture and sound quality are acceptable but not spectacular.

Recording.

No VideoPlus only a timer facility that promises up to 7 programmes in a month, but with a maximum recording time of 4 hours they had better be short. it has 3 quality settings for record, as follows;

HQ - 1 hour
SQ - 2 hours
LQ - 4 hours

To be honest i would rather use a VHS recorder than use LQ.

Being -RW it does give the facility to edit disks, for example to remove adverts but the instructions are so long winded and it seemed so easy to make a mistake that i only tried it once.

It may seem that I'm being a bit harsh on this product. If all you wanted it for was to transfer your video camera footage to DVD it would be fine I'm sure. I expected a bit more and so am disappointed.
