I store a lot of video on my computer and recently I have seen the remaining space come closer and closer to 0 so I decided to do something about it so I bought myself this drive. It is described as a Super MultiDVD Rewriter' and it certainly does that and a bit more.
BASICS
It is an internal drive which comes in three different colours (silver, black or your traditional computer beige) and it can write many different formats of disks. I got the black one as my computer has a black case but that's the only reason because no matter what the colour they are all the same technically. I got this for just under £30 which I was fairly happy with because I wanted a drive for under £40 which could read write and play DVDs.
SPECIFICATIONS
This next section is just for the speeds it writes at and the physical size, yes a bit boring but it's very important as it is what the actual drive does. Writing Speeds: DVD+R: 2.4X, 4X, 8X, 12X, 16X DVD+RW: 2.4X, 4X, 8X DVD+R DL: 2.4X, 4X, 6X, 8X, 10x DVD-R: 2X, 4X, 8X, 16X DVD-RW: 1X, 2X, 4X, 6X DVD-R DL: 2X, 4X, 8x DVD-RAM: 2X, 3X, 5X, 12x CD-R: 4X, 8X, 16X, 24X, 32X, 40X, 48X CD-RW: 4X, 10X, 16X, 24X, 32X Read Speeds: DVD-ROM: 16X Max DVD±R: 10X Max DVD±RW: 8X Max DVD±R DL: 8X Max DVD-RAM: 2X, 3X, 5X Max CD-R/ROM: 48X Max CD-RW: 40X Max Drive Size: 148mm x 165mm x 41.3mm INSTALLATION
The one thing that really bugs me about any internal drive is actually getting it inside of the computer and installing it. It only took me a matter of minutes so it wasn't too bad. Optical drives are probably the easiest type of drives to install so don't be put off by this as it's not too bad. It's easy to learn how to do it and once you know it's pretty easy. It's just all the opening up and finding the right cables that bugs me. After getting it plugged in and put in place and turned my computer on and straight away it was able to recognize it and installed the appropriate drivers so no need for searching for disks and finding out you've lost them and searching the internet and so on, just an easy plug in and get going.
USAGE
Its soo easy to use just pop and disk in and it'll read it and you can do whatever you need to do. For writing onto disks you can use the basic windows program which is ok but I would rather use Roxio because I find it easier to get around and I can set up my options easier. Windows has all the basic programs on it for basic usage but I would say to you to have a look around and get better ones.
IS IT WORTH IT?
For me it was definitely worth it and I think it was well worth what I paid for it. There are new formats of disks coming out though so if you are looking for something that will run those you will have to dig pretty deep into your pocket because those ones are not cheap at all. I got what I wanted so I am pretty happy. I hope I have helped you out and this has helped you to see if you would consider buying this product.
