Had it since december of last year and nothing has gone wrong on it. The surround sound system is made up of 5 small speakers each with equal power, and a subwoofer.
The DVD player has a built in radio allowing AM and FM radio, and the FM radio has RDS so everytime the news and weather is broadcasted on other stations it automaticly changes station. The PTY funciton allows you to chose a genre of music and it will search for a radio station playing that genre. However with both of these features there must be a good number of FM stations around for it to be effective.
As soon as the DVD player is put on, its usualy set to radio and the sound mode is usualy set to 'bypass', sound only comes out of one speaker, so i have to change the mode to get the setting where sound comes out of all of them which is rather annoying everytime i want to listen to music in surround sound. However when it is in another mode, usualy PlyMusic, the sound quality is excellent.
The DVD remote has loads of buttons on it so its pretty big compared to the average remote. As well as being a remote for the DVD player it can also be used on TVs. The DVD part of the remote has all of the ususaly buttons, play pause and navigation through the dvd menus. It aslo has extra features like the A-B repeat section and zoom. You cant change the DVD player function without the remote. So lose the remote and it will be stuck on whatever input it was on.
The DVD player has an extra input which could be used for a record player or as i do sound for TV when using my projector. There is no option to turn of the subwoofer so when i am just watching TV, regardless of what's on, the subwoofer rumbles away. This is pretty annoying when its providing cinema sound on adverts. The subwoofer sound can be turned down individualy but when i come to play my music it doesnt have any bass, so i have to constantly alternate between it being on and off.
The speaker cable is perfect for a normal TV setup, TV with speaker either side one on top then two behind but the setup i have is projection infront of me two speakers either side and three behind me so it doesnt work very well with the cable the speakers come with.
Using the DVD menu its pretty easy, it gives all of the settings under 4 headings. There is nothing to complain about for the DVD playback. It's as expected, i don't see how it could be improved.

...is a bit of a freak when it comes to TV's and Home Cinema, and knows far too much !
After speaking with him, he put me in contact with a company that he always buys his kit from. After a pretty lengthly conversation, and me explaining what I actually wanted to achieve, I was given a price of around the £500 for the set up. Now Im sure that the kit provided would of been top notch, but basically - im not that 'into' the TV, and this was over the budget that I wanted to spend.
Off I trotted to Comet. They had several home cinema / av receivers available and varying in price, right from the bottom of £39.99 right up to around £1,000.
After explaining to the sales guy what I wanted, he showed me the LG. He basically explained that I could connect the Receiver to the TV, and this would then process and take the sound from ANY source ( so...
